Radio Free Skaro #378 - Peter XII
Radio Free SkaroPeter Capaldi is the Twelfth Doctor! Announced during a worldwide live TV broadcast, Peter Capaldi was introduced to an Elstree TV studio full of delighted fans and an entire planet full of excited watchers, and the result is near unanimous - Steven Moffat's sole choice for the role was the right. Good thing the Three Who Rule recorded the news two days before the announcement...and got the announcement right! Amazing foresight (luck) on their part! However, Erika from Verity! not only drops by to talk with Steven about the live broadcast of Capaldi's reveal, but also joins the crew for a commentary on the Series 7 episode "Hide". All hail Peter the Great! And the new Peter, too!

TDP Special National Media Museum in Bradford Doctor Who Exhibition
Tin Dog PodcastRequest for memorabilia to include in major autumn exhibition at the National Media Museum in Bradford Fans of Doctor Who are being asked to share stories and memorabilia to contribute to a major exhibition at the National Media Museum in Bradford, celebrating the 50th anniversary of one of Britain’s most popular television programmes. The exhibition Fifty Years of Doctor Who Fans (National Media Museum, 12 November 2013 until 2 March 2014) will explore people’s devotion to Doctor Who – what the programme means to the fans, what makes a fan, and how they demonstrate their affection. To help answer these questions the Museum is appealing to owners of Doctor Who collectibles and souvenirs, and people who have interesting stories relating to the programme, to get in touch by email atdrwho@nationalmediamuseum.org.uk. Exhibition curator Toni Booth said “Do you have a Doctor Who chess set? Ever knitted your own Dalek? Have you still got that Cyberman helmet in the attic? If so, these are exactly the kind of objects that might go towards creating this new exhibition. "We would like to use examples of Doctor Who memorabilia from the past fifty years – both official merchandise and more personal homemade objects - the kind of things which show a fan’s love for the Doctor. We want to know why you have this object, when you got it, and your feelings towards Doctor Who then and now." She added: "We would really appreciate as many fans as possible getting in touch to help shape this exhibition, which will be highlighting the people who watch the show." Organisers are collecting offers of contributions until the 9 August, before making a selection for the exhibition. Anyone who would like to offer contributions or suggestions can provide details of their memorabilia to drwho@nationalmediamuseum.org.uk by 9 August. The Museum asks that no objects are sent now as their inclusion in the exhibition, or their return, cannot be guaranteed at this stage. Further details can be found at www.nationalmediamuseum.org.uk/doctorwho Fifty Years of Doctor Who Fans runs at the National Media Museum from 12 November 2013 to 2 March 2014.

2MTL 316: What IS "Doctor Who Canon" Anyway??? (Time Dilation)
Two-minute Time LordSo while we wait for Sunday's announcement of the actor that will play the next Doctor, let's talk about that stickiest of subjects, Doctor Who canon. We won't discuss whether Dimensions in Time is "in" or Time Crash is "out" (the answer is no and no, by the way) but where this whole notion of canonical stories comes from in the first place: religion!
What does "Doctor Who canon" have in common with religious canon? How does one determine which stories "matter," and does a 50-year-old television series develop a canon in the same way that a 2,000 year-old (give or take) religion did? Rabid Doctor Who fan and New Testament historian Mark Goodacre is the perfect guest for this Time Dilation conversation. No proselytization, just Doctor Who geekery at its finest, placed in a historical context.
And Mark, update your website.

Tim's Take On: Episode 184(The BFI Celebrates the seventh Doctor)
Tim's Take On...I was lucky enough to be in the audience for another of the BFI's special events to celebrate 50 years of Doctor Who. Thanks to a spare ticket from my friend Rebecca we were treated to a big screen showing of Doctor Who: Remembrance of the Daleks and interviews with John Leeson, Mike Tucker, Dick Mills and a main panel discussion panel with Silvester Mc Coy, Sophie Aldred and Ben Aaronovitch. I bring all of these interviews uncut for this week's podcast. I've no idea if I'll make it along to any more of these BFI events but the two I've been able to attend have been excellent value for money.
You can see all my photos of the event here http://www.flickr.com/photos/tdrury/sets/72157634820032006/
and there are several videos of the event on my you tube including this one of the main panel in which you can see Silv explaining how he got the part of the Doctor http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bx6WSFsvmrU
End theme tune is a remix of the Doctor Who Theme by Siobahn Gallichan of The Flashing Blade Podcast, Siobahn can be contacted here show@flashingblade.org.uk
