He’s Always a Villain
Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastThis week we discuss Pyramids of Mars, a classic Hinchcliffe story that comes in the top ten in every reputable fan poll. Naturally enough, Nathan doesn’t like it.
Buy the story!
Pyramids of Mars was released on DVD way back in 2004. (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)
Links and notes
Well, it’s a Hinchcliffe/Holmes story, so let’s get the sources out of the way: The Riddle of the Sands (1903) by Erskine Childers is a rollicking adventure about an impeding German invasion, and The Secret Garden (1911) by Frances Hodgson Burnett is a beloved children’s book about why doctors cannot be trusted.
But that’s not all. Not only do we famously have Hammer’s Blood from the Mummy’s Tomb (1971) as a major source, but Brendan also identifies Dr Phibes Rises Again! (1972).
Michael Bilton’s Collins the manservant impobably survives the conflagration in Part 4, and goes on many years later to do for Audrey fforbes-Hamilton in To The Manor Born (1979).
Fans of both friction and lubrication will enjoy, among other things, the Journal of Tribology.

The Twelfth Doctor Retrospective
Trust Your DoctorThis is the end of everything.
It’s kind of bittersweet saying goodbye to so many things that have kind of become staples so to speak of the show for us. Stephen Moffat, Murray Gold, Mark Gatiss, Peter Capaldi. All of them are leaving for us now. This almost feels like it might be one of the biggest changes in the show that we’ve ever experienced. This week we read Terrorformer and The Swords of Kali, published in October 2014 through February 2015.

DIDDLY DUM PODCAST 035 - Stage Fright
Diddly Dum PodcastHayden and Matt’s recent visit to the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular set them pondering as to whether Doctor Who works in a stage format. Therefore, in this week’s podcast, the Four Faces of Delusion look at the history of Doctor Who on stage – Curse of the Daleks, Seven Keys to Doomsday, The Ultimate Adventure, The Trial of Davros and Doctor Who Live: The Monsters are Coming.
Along the way we see C3PO and Princess Leia go toe to toe with Nick Briggs, Murray Gold “accidentally” bumps into Hayden and insists on a selfie with the noted podcaster, we learn of the Satanic message hidden within the Series 8 music when played backwards, Matt reveals his secret for getting Doctor Who Proms tickets, we explore the links between Peter Miles and Peter Gabriel and Doc explains the Rule of Seven in TV sci-fi. Arm yourself for future pub quizzes as we work out which was the first ever scene in which a Doctor kisses a companion – and it isn’t what you might think (Benton doesn’t count as a companion).
