Who's He? Podcast 484 | We've had our doubts
Who's He?In this episode of the Who's He? Podcast....
Review - Joy to The World
In the last podcast of 2024, the Who's He? team look at this years Doctor Who Christmas Special, Joy to The World, starring Ncuti Gatwa. With Scott stepping in at late notice to replace Paul who was trapped in a temporal nexus (or Zoom not working properly), he joins a still grumpy Phil in looking at this Steven Moffat story that features a time hotel, dinosaurs and a one shot companion in the form of Nicola Coughlans Joy. But was she really the companion and why did Phil think this story features one of the most tone deaf plot devices he's seen in a Christmas Special?
We wish all our listeners a Happy New Year and we will see you in 2025!

Radio Free Skaro #993 - The Hotel at the End of the Universe
Radio Free SkaroIt’s the annual tradition of our Radio Free Skaro livestream with Steven, Warren, and special guest Kyle Anderson as they look at “Joy to the World,” the latest traditional Xmas special written by Steven Moffat, along with a tsunami of other Doctor Who content including the Doctor Who Proms, behind the scenes fun like Unleashed and The War Games in Colour! Also, Thrill to fulsome praise of The Space Pirates, and less enthusiastic about The Savages, which has nothing to do with any of the above!

The Doctor Who PodcastWOW! What do you make of that?! Join Phil and James from the Campervan as they try to find space in the Campervan after the DWP Christmas Party and discuss their views on Joy to the World, this year’s Doctor Who Christmas Special. Thanks for all your feedback that features in this DWP – keep it coming – the discussion continues online in our Facebook Group!
Join the DWP crew next week for our now traditional Review of the Year in Episode 387.

Plummeting Towards Sheffield
Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastThis Christmas, we travel from a snowy wasteland in the recent past, to an alien battlefield on a distant planet, to a historical battlefield that has faded from human memory — only to discover that the real battlefield was the friends we made along the way. Or something. Time to say goodbye to Peter Capaldi in Twice upon a Time.
Notes and links
For the kids: Morecambe and Wise were an incredibly successful and famous British comedy duo throughout the 60s, 70s and 80s, and their Christmas specials were insanely popular — running from 1969 to 1977 on the BBC, and then on ITV from 1978 to 1983. Their 1977 show was watched by 28 million people in the UK.
Inevitably, Richard mentions some antecedents to this story. A Christmas Carol (1843), in which Charles Dickens calls out his era’s brutal social inequalities and essentially creates Christmas as we know it. All Quiet on the Western Front (1928), a vivid story of some young German soldiers fighting in France during the Great War. And, closer to home, A B Facey’s A Fortunate Life (1981), the autobiography of a Australian man who experienced extraordinary suffering and loss — growing up in Western Australia, surviving the Gallipoli campaign, losing his son in World War II — before the publication of the book when he was 87 years old. (“I have lived a very good life, it has been very rich and full. I have been very fortunate and I am thrilled by it when I look back.”)
If you want to know what Susan was up to instead of appearing in this episode, the adventures of the War Susan now encompass three Big Finish box sets, one of which is due for release some time next year.
Simon identifies a nod in Murray’s soundtrack to Arvo Pärt’s Spiegel im Spiegel (1978). You can hear it performed here.

Who's He? Podcast 483 | Any complaints this morning?
Who's He?In this episode of the Who's He? Podcast....
The War Games - IN COLOUR!
In a festive episode, Scott and Phil look at The War Games - In Colour starring Patrick Troughton as the Doctor. In this colourised, heavily edited and enhanced edition of Patrick Troughtons final story, we get to see the second Doctor regenerate into the third and for some reason, confirmation that the War Chief is really the Master.
Phil goes into full on Scrooge mode as the pair of them discuss the highs and lows of another classic Doctor Who story being adapted for a modern audience. Whatever that means.
Also, we get an early Christmas present in the form of Jon Pertwee's first season getting the The Collection treatment on bluray, which puts the festive spirit into Phil.
We wish all our listeners a very merry Christmas!!

Something Who 101
Something WhoYou may have noticed that our 100th episode came out earlier this year. This is a series of clips from the first 5 years of our podcast to capture the spirit of what we do. If you haven't heard us before, this will give you a flavour. And if you have, here's a reminder.
Thanks to all the many contributors and guests over those 5 years. It's been a lot of fun (and a hell of a lot of editing).
We hope you enjoy these clips and, if you do, please peruse our back catalogue for the full versions of all of these items and perhaps you'd like to leave us a review on Apple Podcasts or similar platform.
The opening music is Three Guitars Mood 2 and, yes, that is Richard playing the ukulele and kazoo on possibly the worst ever version of the Doctor Who theme tune at the end.
The Something Who logo, which features prominently on all our cover art was designed for us by Bea Garrido. She's a really talented artist, who you can find by following this link: https://beagarridoart.weebly.com/, where you can buy prints of some remarkable paintings of characters from Doctor Who.

TDP 1328: 90 #Torchwood: Reflect
Tin Dog PodcastThis title was released in December 2024. It will be exclusively available to buy from the Big Finish website until 28 February 2025, and on general sale after this date. "I will live in the past, the present, and the future. The spirits of all three shall strive within me." Christmas is a time for ghost stories, everyone knows that. But it is also a time to reflect on the past, consider the present and muse on where we might be in the future. Dorothy McShane and St John Colchester-Price have gathered to tell each other - and you at home - four stories of horror and hope, of spirits and sadness. It's the longest night of the year. And the lady in green waits... **Please note: the collector’s edition CD is strictly limited to 1,000 copies**

Podcastica Episode 327: Planet of the Ood OR Under the Oodfluence
PodcasticaSomething ood is afoot in the Ood Sphere! Yes, it's capitalism and exploitation come to wreck yet another civilization! Aren't we humans grand? Yes, this time we watch the wintry classic Planet of the Ood and weigh its message against the legendary, heavy-handed Orphan 55 (good news, not as heavy). And programming note: we may not be reviewing the Christmas special until about the first of the new year, so let us take this opportunity to thank you for joining us in 2024 and to wish you all a lovely holiday season!

#259 - The Wheel Deal
Doctor Who: The Metebelis 2We discuss the phenomenal animation of "The Wheel in Space" by Iz Skinner and her partner Steve Skinner. It easily ranks in the top three of Doctor Who animations. We speculated about this animation having an official release before Josh Snares released his informative "Making of" documentary. Thus our podcast is a little behind the times due to the editing and production lag. To view the animation, you may watch the complete episodes on Gav Rymill's Missing Episodes Patreon or a playlist on TARDIS Timegirl's YouTube channel. Opening and closing music is from Wheel's soundtrack and was composed by Brian Hodgson. We recorded this podcast on 2 December 2024.

Tin Dog PodcastVampires live their lives by rules - but who polices them? Welcome to the Office of the Night, where vampires Catrin and Magnus keep an uneasy peace between the living and the undead. Party All Night Vampire Circuit Parties? Someone's set up a series of tasting clubs at which vampires massacre unsuspecting human invitees. Magnus and Catrin must stop this before the craze goes viral. It's Jane's first day as human liaison to the Office of the Night and it may well be her last. Blood Bank Some vampires choose not to kill for blood – they prefer to have it supplied. It's a lifestyle choice. There’s a thriving red market in liquid gold. But the vampires running the Red Market are worried – something's contaminating the blood – a contaminant that for some is a drug and for others is lethal. If the Red Market falls, then their customers are suddenly going to get very hungry. Under the Sun A vampire cult has sprung up allowing vampires the ultimate cure – the ability to walk in the sun. Catrin and Magnus are worried. Is the cult a trick, or will it change the way that vampires feed, unleashing terror on the world? Note: This production features scenes of vampiric feeding and blood consumption.
