Episode 157: Brutally Stabbed in the Literal Back
Trust Your DoctorOw.
This week it’s the twenty-fifth anniversary of Kennedy’s Assassination! No, that’s not right. What else happened around that time? It’s Silver Nemesis, written by Kevin Clarke and aired November and December of 1988.
Show-notes:
5:18 Because of this crap. Thanks people of the past. Thanks for doing this. Calculating dates is really something your descendants wanted to do.
15:17 If you don’t already know what that is then you probably don’t want to…
21:28 The first one is the good one. The second one is the one with the octopus face guy. The third one is the one with the ship in a desert. The fourth one is the pretty bad one. The fifth one is the one that’s not out yet. Hope that clears it up.
34:52 Jesus… Well, at least the show has come a long way in some ways. Making a better looking costume on a tiny budget is one of those ways.
37:25 Don’t believe me?
37:35 Still don’t believe me?
38:51 No.
39:03 Check out our other podcast, Triple Play. We talk about movies and stuff. Mostly stuff. We did an episode about Star Wars. We also did like 20 other episodes about not Star Wars.

Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastOur vast Flight Through Entirety budget for this season has now run out completely, so this week we’re just hanging out in some dingy corridors listlessly rebelling against things for no reason. It’s here, it’s lame — it’s Timelash.
Welcome to voting cubicle three thirty
Our poll is still open: just head over to the shownotes for Episode 103 and cast your vote for the Pertwee story you would like us to ruin for you forever in an upcoming commentary episode. We’re in Australia here, so voting is compulsory.
Buy the story!
Timelash was released on DVD in 2007/2008. But you’d really be better of spending your money on plutonium and cigarettes (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)
Notes and links
Inspired by the events of this story, H. G. Wells will go on to create modern SF, probably, with classics like The Time Machine, The Island of Doctor Moreau and The Invisible Man, and with more terrible books like The Food of the Gods and In the Days of the Comet.
Fans of guest stars coming on to a science fiction programme and completely upstaging the lead will enjoy Colin Baker’s performance as Bayban in the Blakes 7 episode City at the Edge of the World.
At the start of the Virgin Missing Adventure Speed of Flight by Paul Leonard, the Doctor plans to take Jo Grant and Mike Yates to Karfel for an exciting adventure of some kind.
This story’s composer, Elizabeth Parker, was previously responsible for special sound on Blakes 7 from Season 2 onwards. She may have provided the music for Duel; she seems definitely to have provided the music for Gambit. She will go on to have resounding success with the music for David Attenborough’s The Living Planet.
How did we all react the last time the Loch Ness Monster appeared in Doctor Who? Listen to Episode 37: A Shaved Mr Snuffleupagus to find out.
Todd is horrified to learn that Brendan enjoyed Star Trek: The Next Generation bottle show Where Silence Has Lease.
In a nearby parallel universe where Timelash was never made, this week’s episode of Flight Through Entirety covers either Leviathan or The Song of the Space Whale.
And a very loud voice
We can’t get enough Colin Baker, of course, and so in an upcoming episode we plan to talk about some of his work for Big Finish.
If you want to prepare, here’s a list of the audios we plan to cover.
- Jubilee, by Rob Shearman
- The One Doctor, by Gareth Roberts and Clayton Hickman
- Doctor Who and the Pirates, by Jacqueline Rayner
- Criss-Cross, by Matt Fitton

Doctor Who in 10 Seconds
Brendan has been hard at work in the studio this week, which means that it won’t be too long before we get to see another episode of Doctor Who in Ten Seconds. While you wait, you can still watch all of the previous episodes, in which Brendan summarises 51 Doctor Who stories in no more than 10 seconds each. Make sure you subscribe to his YouTube channel, so that you are informed immediately when the Season 8 episode becomes available.
Bondfinger
We were so gutted by Rodge’s wildly premature departure from the Bond franchise, that we’ve been unable to bring ourselves to watch his successor in the role. Is he any good?
But, our duty to Queen and Country compels us to continue, which means that Bondfinger will return with our commentary on The Living Daylights (1987).
In the meantime, we have a range of Rodgecasts online, and other Bonds are also available, of course. You can keep up with all the Bondfinger news on Twitter and Facebook.

We can’t get enough Colin Baker, of course, and so in an upcoming episode we plan to talk about some of his work for Big Finish.

Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastOur vast Flight Through Entirety budget for this season has now run out completely, so this week we’re just hanging out in some dingy corridors listlessly rebelling against things for no reason. It’s here, it’s lame — it’s Timelash.

Our poll is still open: just head over to the shownotes for Episode 103 and cast your vote for the Pertwee story you would like us to ruin for you forever in an upcoming commentary episode. We’re in Australia here, so voting is compulsory.

Timelash was released on DVD in 2007/2008. But you’d really be better of spending your money on plutonium and cigarettes (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)

Notes and links
Inspired by the events of this story, H. G. Wells will go on to create modern SF, probably, with classics like The Time Machine, The Island of Doctor Moreau and The Invisible Man, and with more terrible books like The Food of the Gods and In the Days of the Comet.
Fans of guest stars coming on to a science fiction programme and completely upstaging the lead will enjoy Colin Baker's performance as Bayban in the Blakes 7 episode City at the Edge of the World.
At the start of the Virgin Missing Adventure Speed of Flight by Paul Leonard, the Doctor plans to take Jo Grant and Mike Yates to Karfel for an exciting adventure of some kind.
This story's composer, Elizabeth Parker, was previously responsible for special sound on Blakes 7 from Season 2 onwards. She may have provided the music for Duel; she seems definitely to have provided the music for Gambit. She will go on to have resounding success with the music for David Attenborough's The Living Planet.
In a nearby parallel universe where Timelash was never made, this week's episode of Flight Through Entirety covers either Leviathan or The Song of the Space Whale.
And a very loud voice
We can't get enough Colin Baker, of course, and so in an upcoming episode we plan to talk about some of his work for Big Finish.
If you want to prepare, here's a list of the audios we plan to cover.

Doctor Who in 10 Seconds
Brendan has been [hard at work] in the studio this week, which means that it won't be too long before we get to see another episode of Doctor Who in Ten Seconds. While you wait, you can still watch all of the previous episodes, in which Brendan summarises 51 Doctor Who stories in no more than 10 seconds each. Make sure you subscribe to his YouTube channel, so that you are informed immediately when the Season 8 episode becomes available.

Bondfinger
We were so gutted by Rodge's wildly premature departure from the Bond franchise, that we've been unable to bring ourselves to watch his successor in the role.

Doctor Who in 10 Seconds
Brendan has been hard at work in the studio this week, which means that it won't be too long before we get to see another episode of Doctor Who in Ten Seconds.

2.2 The Doctor Who Show (February 26, 2017)
The Doctor Who ShowDavid Kitchen's back! Well, if you heard our '21 Replacements For 12' episode on February 1, you'd know that, but this is the first time in 2017 that Rob sits down to discuss Doctor Who with Dave on the flagship edition of the show.
During today's episode, they cover:
- Listener emails from John Hole and 'Kazza' which cover Children of the Dogstar; Chocky; casting a female Doctor; and whether Rob and Dave are 50th Anniversary deniers.
- Errors Department: paper with the corners cut off to make it look futuristic is a Battlestar Galactica thing, not a Babylon 5 thing. Rob's mistake.
- What Doctor Who music has stood out for you, and why? Nu Who or classic series, we want to hear it all from you. No pun intended. Email us -- hello@theDWshow.net -- or tell us on our Facebook or Twitter.
- Doctor Who Series 10: we have a release date; Missy's return and will this be her final hurrah?; the Ice Warriors return with an all-new version but will this be a great or dodgy Gatiss episode; Dave's Pearl Mackie conspiracy theory.
- Doctor Who Series 11: production has been pushed back, so we won't see it in April of 2018 as many had been expecting after we 'reset the clock' this year.
- Doctor Who news: Vale, John Hurt; Big Finish sale perhaps prefaces the retirement of CDs 51 - 125 as physical media and Big Finish chat in general - what are Rob and Dave buying and why?; the essay book Hating to Love (which we interviewed JR Southall about on an earlier episode), has been released - and Dave and Rob each have a copy; future Watching Books releases.
- Dave's adventures in the UK: meeting the Blue Box Podcast & Diddly Dum podcast crews; are podcasts replacing Doctor Who clubs in the modern day?; visiting Doctor Who locations in the UK.
- Totally Tasteless: The Life of John Nathan-Turner by Richard Marson.
- What are we watching beyond Doctor Who? Dave cites The Goldbergs and Riverdale while Rob opts for the Santa Clarita Diet.
- Some more quick thoughts on Series 10 of Doctor Who before we go.

Timelash was released on DVD in 2007/2008. But you’d really be better of spending your money on plutonium and cigarettes (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)
