“Class: Episode 6 – Detained” Review

We’re still not the biggest fans of Class but can this minimal story bring us round?

    “The Sontaran Experiment” Review

What’s this? A little two parter in Tom Baker’s first series. Lots of good elements in this story but does it leave us out in the cold, rocky marsh?

Thanks for sticking with us and listening to another show. If you don’t yet subscribe, make sure you look us up on iTunes and hit that subscribe button! Next week we’re looking at the 12th Doctor story Time Heist. Have a great week and remember – Allons-y!!

The Douglas Adams story The Pirate Planet is getting released in January and is based on the original notes Adams put down over 40 years ago. Will be a good pick up this one.

Warlord Games are releasing two additional miniature sets for the upcoming adventure table top game Into the Time Vortex. These new sets are the Cybermen and Dalek versions which can be custom painted.

    “Class: Episode 5 – Brave-ish Heart” Review

The concluding episode to last week but has it ramped up the essentials to provide a fitting close or are we left a little disappointed?

    “Dinosaurs on a Spaceship” Review

“I have a gang!” It’s always great to spend time with the 11th Doctor and this one has it’s fans and dislikers. What do we think though? A classic Doctor Who adventure or should it remain on the shelf, ready for extinction?

A huge thank you as always for you continued support and those that sent in reviews. Next week it classic week and it’s the turn of the 4th Doctor and The Sontaran Experiment. Have a super week and remember – Allons-y!!

Hey listeners. Welcome aboard new and old listeners alike. This week it’s sad news, a few good merch items, our review of Class episode 4 and our regular review which this week is the classic story Attack of the Cybermen.

    The News

Bad times. The Doctor Who Experience in Cardiff is to close its doors next summer. Unfortunately the council funded lease on the purpose built building is up and there’s no plans to renew that lease or relocate. There is an online petition which if you have yet signed please jump on and show your support.

After little info on the blu ray version for the upcoming release of The Power of the Daleks, two come along at once. The standard blue ray (containing both black and white and colour versions) is out in Feburary 2017 and also… a special edition steelbook is coming out at the same time, exclusive to Amazon.

Fans of the Target book covers will be pleased to know there’s a 2017 calendar featuring a bunch of covers from artist Andrew Skileter.

“Class: Episode 4 – Co-Owner of a Lonely Heart” Review

Oh Class, will you start giving us some decent stories? So far it’s been a bumpy road for us but does this one step it up a gear?

    “Attack of the Cybermen” Review

It’s been a while since we spent some time with the 6th Doctor so it’s good to be back in the presence of old Sixie. Garry spoke about this story way back in Episode 4 in 2014 but has his opinion changed? Both Garry and Adam have some interesting thoughts.

Thanks Who fans for listening and your thoughts. Next week we visit the 11th Doctor and the, again, divided story Dinosaurs on a Spaceship. Until than have a great week and remember – Allons-y!!

Three new books from the 60’s are getting re-published with beautiful covers; Doctor Who in an exciting adventure with the Daleks, Doctor Who and the Zarbi and Doctor Who and the Crusaders. They’re a great price in Amazon right now.

The Beeb have confirmed the upcoming additional content in the upcoming The Power of the Daleks which might please some people.

A new Doctor Magazine Special has landed – Invasions of Earth which is on sale now, looks great.

“Class: Episode 2 – Nightvisiting” Review

We were quite varied last week when we gave our thoughts on episodes 1 and 2 so has this week levelled out and given us the Class we were hoping for?

    “Tooth and Claw” Review

Well timed around Halloween brings us to this creepy tale of werewolves. Plenty going on in this one; Queen Victoria, kung-fu monks, death and despair but is it enough to give us 45 minutes of entertainment or are we left cold out in the moonlight.

Thank you for listening and sticking with us. Your thoughts and opinions are always a great insight. Next week it’s old Sixie’s turn as we look at Attack of the Cybermen so get your thoughts in for that. Until than have a great week and remember – Allons-y!!

Hey Who fans. We have a chock-a-block show this week which includes the latest Doctor Who news, some merch then our review of Class episodes 1 and 2 then onto our normal review which is The Krotons. Phew!

    The News

The Power of the Daleks is also coming to cinemas in Australia. Set your calendars for Saturday 12th November as you’ll not only get to see the story in all its glory on the big screen but there’s also a bunch of special features after. Our listeners down under need to head over to the Sharmill Films site to grab your tickets.

A new teaser video has been released showing a tiny bit more about the upcoming Christmas Special. We talk about it a bit more and our feelings on it’s potential success.

    Merch

Those of you that have been impressed by Class will be glad to hear that Series 1 is already up for pre-order from Amazon on blu ray and dvd. The release date is 2nd January next year.

“Class: Episodes 1 and 2” Review

A spin-off show is always big news so we’ve dedicated a bit of time to talk through our thoughts and give you a mini-review on the first couple of episodes of Class. Garry has been less than impressed and Adam’s been swayed after his boozy night at the premier but how do we feel about it now? A*’s all round or detention?

    “The Krotons” Review

We love the 2nd Doctor so it’s with delight that we’re reviewing this classic from the 60’s. Although Trougton is marvellous to watch does the story keep us entertained or do we fizzle out like Krotons being dissolved with acid?

Thank you all so much for listening and subscribing, your thoughts on our review ep is always lovely. Next week it’s that cheeky 10th Doctor and Tooth and Claw so get your reviews in for that. Until than have a great week and remember – Allons-y!!

Welcome aboard the Tardis Who fans as we venture into episode 113 for some Doctor Who news, latest merch and our weekly review!

    The News

Our US listeners will be pleased to know that The Power of the Daleks, the upcoming animated restore of the lost story, will be in cinemas on 14th November, a few days before it airs on TV. Check out the Fathom Events site for more details.

A bunch of new Class pics have emerged giving us more insight into the setup and characters. Exciting as we’re mere days away from episodes 1 and 2 going live.

    Merch

Character Toys have released the first image for a new 5.5 inch figure which is the 10th Doctor in Tuxedo. It looks, well, rubbish but maybe a suitable addition to your collection if you’re into your figures.

    “Kill the Moon” Review

Another often divided story and one that came under a lot of flack when it first went out. Capaldi’s fun trip to the moon soon turns sour but does this one provide enough gravitas with the story or are we left feeling the coldness of space?

Thank you all for listening and your thoughts on Kill the Moon. Next week it’s a classic story and we’re in the mood for some 2nd Doctor so get ready for The Krotons. Until than have a great week and remember – Allons-y!!

Hey everyone. Some cool news and merch this week followed by out review of 5th Doctor story The Awakening. Let’s do it!

    The News

We have a teaser/trailer/behind-the-scenes thing for the Christmas Special. Yes, The Return of Doctor Mysterio will be on our screens this Crimbo and this video gives us a wee insight into what we can expect. Before then however…

Finally, a proper trailer has been released for Class. It’s certainly looking polished and ready to go and we’ll be giving you our thoughts on it. Episodes 1 and 2 will go out on BBC Three Online on Saturday 22nd October.

Great news – a writer from the classic era will be penning a script for next year’s series 10! While the Moff didn’t confirm who this was we have a wager; Adam thinks it could be Rob Shearman while Garry has his money on Ben Aaronovitch. Excited about this.

    Merch

Those fans of the cute children’s stories The Mr. Men will be thrilled to know that a mash-up of Mr. Men and Doctor Who will be out from Puffin Books next year! Each Doctor will have his own book, Dr. Fourth for example, and features the original design we know fondly.

Eaglemoss, the company behind the Doctor Who Figurine Collection, have announced a new “Mega-Dalek” to accompany the already available Bronze version. The new silver and blue figure will be 23cm tall and if priced the same as the Bronze version will retail for PS85.

    “The Awakening” Review

Dark undertones and a lost grandfather await in this little two-part story from the Davison era. We have mixed feelings on some of Davison’s stories but will this one be a hidden gem to enjoy or should it stay hidden.

A huge thank you for your reviews as always. Next week we’re driving forward to review the 12th Doctor story Kill the Moon which we know has varying degrees of both like and dislike so please get your thoughts in for that. Until than have a great week and as always – Allons-y!!

Hello Who fans, jump aboard, we’ve got a great show this week. Some great news and updates then onto our review of The Rings of Akhaten.

    The News

Those clever peeps at Real SFX and Milk VFX have scooped the BAFTA Cymru Award for Special and Visuals, Titles and Graphics from series 9 opener The Magician’s Apprentice. Crack open that champagne!

Way back in Episode 75 we told you of a Kickstarter campaign to get the old style Doctor Who Pinball machine reborn into a new digital version, well it’s now shipped to most platforms. It’s available on iOS, Google Play, Steam, Mac App Store, Amazon and Ouya (with the console versions coming soon). It’s a wonderful game and a slice of DW history, check it out.

An update to the upcoming Polarity Day happening on 23rd October – it will now occupy a larger auditorium at the Wimbledon Theatre which means more tickets so you can now apply to up to four instead of two. This also means more people on the guest list including John Levene (Sargent Benton), Bernard Holly (Axon leader) and the DWAS President Colin Baker! It’s now shaping up to be a great day.

    Merch

If you’ve been a fan of the War Doctor stories from Big Finish then you’ll be pleased to know that Volume 3: Agents of Chaos was released yesterday. Grab it and carry on the brilliant story.

    “The Rings of Akhaten” Review

There are some stories in each series of Who (both old and new) that really don’t gel with a lot of people, this week’s story being one of them. What do your hosts think however; as charming and entertaining as a good song or like a cat being strangled? Either way, we’ve got some interesting thoughts.

Thank you , you lovely lot for listening and for all your thoughts and audio clips. Next week its classic Who and we’re watching the 5th Doctor story The Awakening so remember to give us your reviews. Until than have a great week and as always – Allons-y!!

Welcome aboard the Tardis Who fans as we land somewhere in time and space to go through the news, let those pesky Daleks in for some upcoming merch then we rewind back to classic Who for our review of The Green Death.

    The News

Last week we told you about Polarity Day, an upcoming event to celebrate Jon Pertwee and his time as the Doctor. The DWAS have now released ticket and event info which you can check out here. Get your stamped address envelopes off now!

We have some more details on Class including Capaldi’s involvement in episode 1 and we now have a date too – Saturday 22nd October will see the first two episodes go live on the now online only channel BBC Three.

    Merch

We go through the press release for the upcoming new series of Lethbridge-Stewart books starting with the great sounding Times Squared which is a direct sequel to The Web of Fear.

    “The Green Death” Review

There’s no reversing of the polarity in this episode but we do have plenty of giant maggots and a sad farewell for Jo Grant. Are we drawn to the green glow of this story or do we feel like maggots stuck on a fishing hook?

Thank you as always for listening, quite a long show this week. Next week it’s the 11th Doctor’s turn when we look at the often divided The Rings of Akhaten, get your reviews in for that one. Until than have a great week and as always – Allons-y!!

    Merch

Just one bit of merch this week as Big Finish announce volume two of Classic Doctors, New Monsters which this time will feature the Racnos.

    “The Lazarus Experiment” Review

We’re big fans of Tennent as you know but how does this one stack up? Series 3 is interesting as Martha is now on board but the Doctor doesn’t want a full on companion, or does he? We’re loving this one like a pleasant gathering of people in swanky London or does it mutate into an awful monster?

Thank you all for listening and a big hello to our new listeners. Next week is the classic story The Green Death up for review so get your thoughts in for that. Until than have a lovely week and as always – Allons-y!!

Hm, hm, hm. He he he (that was my Hartnell impression). Hey Who fans. Some very interesting news this week then onto our classic review of The Romans.

    The News

John Barrowman seems to be playing the blame game with the lack of commitment to more Torchwood and throws it all in Moffat’s direction. Well, the Moff is not happy, not happy at all and publicly replies to Mr B. We’ll keep reporting on this one as it unfolds. Handbags at dawn!

Chris Eccleston recently gave a review on an Australian radio station and revels a bit more on how he felt about his time on Who plus a couple of interesting nuggets we haven’t heard before.

    Merch

Talking of John Barrowman, Big Finish are releasing a new audio drama next year called The Lives of Captain Jack. With links to some cool characters from Who, this could be a belter. It’s out June 2017.

Those busy peeps at Candy Jar have another free digital book to get your teeth into, this one based on the legend that is Eileen Younghusband called The Last Duty. Check it out here.

    “The Romans” Review

This week we look into an often forgotten Hartnell story (ahem, Adam!) The Romans. Sprinkled the humour and based loosely on historical fact, this is a fun romp but are we impressed like the Ceasers of old or hung high and dry in the arena?

Thank you for listening and your thoughts. Next week it’s that cheeky 10th Doctor’s turn when we review The Lazarus Project, we look forward to your reviews. Until than have a great week and as always – Allons-y!!

    The News

Some exciting news – the completely lost Troughton story The Power of the Daleks has been given the full animated treatment and will be released on November 5th on the BBC Store digitally then on DVD on the 21st November.

    Merch

To tie in with the release of the upcoming spin-off show Class this October, BBC Books are releasing three novels that expand on the story of the new young heroes from Coal Hill School.

    “World War Three” Review

We conclude our Slitheen review with the second part of this 9th Doctor story. More fart jokes and light content or more sinister darker tones for us to get into?

Thank you all as always for listening and sending in your thoughts. Next week we’re looking at an often forgotten 1st Doctor story The Romans. Until than have a great week and as always – Allons-y!!

Hi you lot. This week we have some cool Pertwee news, a sweet custom Titan figure and then onto our review of Battlefield. Let’s do it.

    The News

Another classic Who commentary is on the way from Fantom Publishing’s Who Talk series, this time it’s the turn of Remembrance of the Daleks. Previous releases have included The Web of Fear and The Doemons amongst others so go check them out.

The Doctor Who Appreciation Society is currently raising funds for a Heritage Plaque in honour of Jon Pertwee which they’re hoping to have installed at the New Wimbledon Theatre. This is all to celebrate 40 years of the DWAS for which Pertwee was the first honorary president. There’s also a special event coming up in London on the 23rd October called Polarity Day to celebrate the 40th anniversary and Pertwee’s Doctor.

    Merch

Titan recently unveiled a new TARDIS 4.5″ figure at New York Comic Con and is now up for order at Forbidden Planet. The Clara Tribute TARDIS is adorned with the floral paintings and portrait by Rigsy and looks rather good.

    “Battlefield” Review

Aaaaaaaace!!!! Yes, it’s plenty of 7th Doctor and Ace action as Battlefield kicked off series 26 and our review this week. Some good stuff in this one or do we get stuck like trying to pull Excalibur from it’s stone?

That’s a wrap for episode 106 and thank you as always for listening and sticking with us. Next week we finish the 9th Doctor’s story in our review of World War Three. Until than have a great week and as always – Allons-y!!

Hey Who fans! It’s a packed show this week with plenty of waffle, news, merch and then our review of the 9th Doctor story Aliens of London.

    The News

US fans will be happy as Peter Capaldi, Pearl Mackie, Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Steven Moffat and the cast of Class will be attending this year’s New York Comic Con in October. You lucky people.

We reported a couple of weeks ago that series 9 episode Heaven Sent was nominated for a Hugo Award and… unfortunately Who didn’t win, missing out to the final episode of Jessica Jones.

Some sad news to end on; actor Michael Napier-Brown, that loveable crazy Mexican Civil War soldier from The War Games, has passed away aged 79. Contributing as one of the more fun characters from that Troughton story it’s a sad time but also a good excuse to give The War Games another watch.

    Merch

It’s promo code week so here we go…

Grab 3 Pop! Funko’s for PS20 from I Want One Of Those.com, some cool Who figures still left to pick up. Use the code POP.

Fancy the official 4th Doctor’s screen accurate scarf or the 7th Doctor’s question mark umbrella? These amongst some other great pieces of Who clothing await along with 15% off from Lovarzi. Just use code WHO15 at checkout.

    “Aliens of London” Review

We love the 9th Doctor, as you probably know by now, and it’s always a treat to re-watch the comeback series. This first part of a two-parter is always up for good debate though. Aliens of London, a fantastic adventure or too childish and flatulent (hee hee) for us?

Thank you listeners, we had loads of reviews in this week across audio, email, Facebook and Twitter, it’s been awesome! Next week we’re getting the rice pudding ready as we visit the 7th Doctor for our review of Battlefield. Until than have a fantastic week and as always – Allons-y!!

    “The Talons of Weng-Chiang” Review

Fans of classic Who, especially those of Tom Baker, refer to this as one of his best and it’s one we’ve looked forward to reviewing. Lots of interesting points of discussion so… are we impressed or do we throw this to the sewer rats?

Thank you so much for listening and your reviews. Next week it’s the turn of the 9th Doctor and the first of a two-parter Aliens of London so look out for the Facebook post and also feel free to email, Tweet or send us an audio review. Until than have a great week and remember – Allons-y!!

Hello to you and welcome to episode 103. Light on news so it’s a good job we’ve got plenty of chat plus our review of the 12th Doctor’s story Listen. Shhhhh…

    The News

If you STILL haven’t been to the Doctor Who Experience in Cardiff there’s now another reason to get yourself there. They’ve just added the restored 4th/5th Doctor’s console! It’s beautiful and well worth the visit to see it close up.

We reported ages ago that Peter Davison was putting out an autobiography but it disappeared from our radar. It’s now back and with a new title – Is There Life Outside The Box? An Actor Despairs and will be released this October.

    “Listen” Review

We’re back watching “attack eyebrows” this week as we dive into a very divisive story. Scary and creepy or smoke and mirrors? We’ve plenty to talk about with this one. Shhh….

That’s it for this episode and thank you for listening and those of you who commented and sent in clips, we really appreciate it. It’s back to classic Who next week with our review of the 4th Doctor’s story The Talons of Weng-Chiang and we’d love to hear your thoughts on that. Direct Podcast Download

Welcome aboard the TARDIS for episode 102 where we talk through a couple of news items, a merch item that’s potentially cool and then we land on Varos for our 6th Doctor review.

    The News

Filming for block 2 on series 10 is now underway and we’ve seen some great set pics featuring Capaldi and Pearl in Victorian costume.

The Moff has been saying in the latest Doctor Who Magazine that he’s not written out the Doctor in series 10 which almost (yes, that’s almost) confirms that Capaldi will stay on into series 11.

    Merch

The rather brilliant TV Movie starring Paul McGann is getting the blu ray treatment. Releasing this September it will be a two disc set but as yet it’s unclear as to what the content is and if it’s an upscale. Good news though.

    “Vengeance on Varos” Review

Known for its dark tones and gritty story, Vengeance on Varos is also regarded as one of Colin Baker’s finest performances. Are we on the same page or trapped in a dystopian future of visual torture?

As always thank you so much for subscribing and sending us your thoughts on our review episode. Next week it’s the time of the 12th Doctor where we look at Listen. Until than have a great week and remember – Allons-y!!

Hello Whovians and welcome to episode 101. With the centennial celebrations behind us we get back down to business with some cool news and our review of t’ Crimson ‘orror!

    The News

If you fancy yourself a bit of a Who story writer then this new book launching in 2017 could be for you. The Temporal Logbook II are accepting short story ideas on 31st July. Search for them or click here to get the details and good luck!

Moffat has been speaking about the new series and something should please us all – “When I agreed to do one more run, I thought, 'Sod it, I'm not doing the march to the scaffold. I want it to feel like a brand new show. I want it to feel like Episode 1 of a new series. I want to leave like it's all just beginning.” Let’s hope he comes good on that.

Ralf Little has released a short but funny video categorically denying his involvement in series 10 (wink wink).

John Barrowman is to have an interesting phone call soon to try and get Torchwood back on the TV! With the comics, books and now Big Finish stories, surly this is the next logical step? Here’s hoping.

    Merch

The series 3 Pop! Funko’s are on their way and from the six figures available, most of them are awesome. We can’t wait to get our hands on these.

Candy Jar books are doing a 2-for-1 offer which ends on Monday 1st August so get over there and pick them up!

    Goody Bag Giveaway

Our winner of the goody bag is Alex Kingdom, well done!

    “The Crimson Horror” Review

Ah series 7, you give so many highs and yet many lows. Does The Crimson Horror fill us with worm splattering joy or do we sink beneath the venomous red sludge?

Thank you for jumping onboard the TARDIS and for all your comments and views. Next week we’re looking at the 6th Doctor story Vengeance on Varos and we’re really interested in your views on that one. Until than have a great week and remember – Allons-y!!

In a recent interview with Matt Smith he thinks a female Doctor might be too far off. When a young female fan asked if she could be the Doctor he replied that a female lead “could be close” and for her to practice and work hard. Interesting.

    “The War Games” Review

What an epic classic story to review for episode 100. It’s a 10 episode adventure that takes the 2nd Doctor with Jamie and Zoe across war stricken time zones, capture, interrogation, mind control, science and an unlikely encounter with the Time Lords. Hits the mark with us or leaves us feeling like with had a mind reset?

Thank you for listening and a massive thank you for sticking with us for 100 episodes. We’re very proud of our show and how far it’s come and it’s all thanks to you brilliant lot! Next week we’re looking at the 11th Doctor story The Crimson Horror so remember to get your thoughts in. Until than have a great week and remember – Allons-y!!

Welcome back into the TARDIS Who fans. We have a couple of interesting news and merch items then onto our review of that wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey story – Blink.

    The News

Matt Strevens has been named as Executive Producer alongside Chris Chibnall for Doctor Who series 11. Working on shows such as Eastenders, The Bill, Cucumber amongst others. His role as Exec Producer on the brilliant An Adventure in Time and Space should please most of us though.

We’re not ones for spinning up the rumour mill but there’s been talk of Matt Smith returning as the Doctor once Capaldi nips off after series 10. Where do we start?

    Merch

Earlier this year a fan made/amateur Who spin-off film was released called Downtime. If you enjoyed that then good news as a direct sequel is out on the 18th July called Daemos Rising which is connected to the awesome 3rd Doctor story The Daemons.

    “Blink” Review

Often touted as a modern Who masterpiece we delve into the details of those creepy Weeping Angels, quantum locks, timey-wimey story line and people only owning 17 dvd’s. Doing it for us or are we left frozen like statues out in the rain?

Thank you for listening and your thoughts on Blink. Next week for Episode 100 we’re looking at the epic classic story The War Games and we’re really looking forward to your reviews on that one. Until than have a great week and remember – Allons-y!!

Howdy do Who fans, we’re at episode 98! Some great news items and merch then we’re going to Earth in 1983 to visit the 5th Doctor for our review of Mawdryn Undead.

    The News

Peter Capaldi is up for Best Actor in this year’s TV Choice Awards. Would be great to see him pick this up so make sure you cast your vote!

Some great news for David Tennant and Steven Moffat who have both received doctorates! In their respective home towns and/or early study places they’ve both been awarded their doctorates for services to drama and acting. What an honour and great moments.

    Merch

Long-time Doctor Who author John Peel is putting his quill to parchment once again as he pens the latest story in the Lethbridge-Stewart series titled The Grandfather Infestation. Good to see a classic Who writer picking up the story which is now up for pre-order.

Titan have released (rather early) the new Who range of mini figures based on the 12th Doctor. A bit hit and miss this one but a few gems in there none-the-less.

Those clever peeps at Rubbertoe Props have just released the Mini Pandorica. Scaled to the same size as the previously released Siege Mode Tardis and Power of Three Cube, it’s has the usual stunning details but also glows in the day and night! Not too bad a price either!

    “Mawdryn Undead” Review

We’re fans of the 5th Doctor as you know but this lesser spoken about “Black Guardian” trilogy is an interesting one. We’re introduced to Turlough, the Brigadier is back and it’s all very timey wimey. A story to recommend or one to leave on the shelf?

Another episode down and thank you for joining us. Next week we’re looking at the 10th Doctor’s story Blink so very much looking forward to your thoughts on that one. Until than have a crackin’ week and remember – Allons-y!!

    The News

A great sounding new Titan comic run is starting this Wednesday 6th July. Titled Supremacy of the Cybermen it’s a big cross over story featuring the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th Doctor’s and their companions, phew. It ties in nicely with both the Cybermen’s 50th anniversary and Titan’s Doctor Who Comics Day which takes place a few days later on the 9th July. Now would be a good time to dip your toe into the Titan comics.

The Doctor Who Magazine shows no signs of slowing down after its amazing 500th issue celebrations last month. Issue 501 is dedicated to Tom Baker and includes seven interviews packed with great insight into the man himself. Another month and another must pick up issue.

If you’re into your large hardback coffee table DW books then Doctor Who: The Whoniverse will be up your street. Coming out this October it features loads of information on human kind’s history within the DW universe, the birth of the Time Lords and lots more.

    Last week’s competition

The winner of our Target book competition is… (drum roll please) – George Garrity. Congrats!

    “The Long Game” Review

Eccleston’s series one is strong overall and you know we’re big fans at the BBB but The Long Game is one that’s often glossed over. Do we find good reason and agree with that or is it one of those hidden gems that deserves much more?

Thank you for all your reviews this week, especially those who threw audio clips over, you’re awesome. Next week we’re travelling back to the 5th Doctor’s era for Mawdryn Undead. Have a fantastic week and until next time – Allons-y!

No substantial news this week but the law of sod threw it’s mighty sword at us. We said that, although filming started this week for series 10, there were no set or cast pics released yet. Then low and behold, minutes after we stop recording, set pics emerge of Pearl Mackie. Meh.

    Merch

No merch this week but we did mention a couple of bits in the end; a new book The American Adventures and some Titan and Pop! stuff.

    Last week’s competition

The winner of our Big Finish competition is… (drum roll please) – Charlotte Stinson. Well done, we’ll be in touch real soon to sort the deets with you.

    This week’s competition

    “The Sea Devils” Review

We always like visiting the 3rd Doctor’s era and this one, often loved, is one we’ve talked about behind the scenes for a while. Classic Doctor and companion team, classic monster and classic Master. Do we share the love or does it leave us treading water?

Thanks for listening and your thoughts. Next week it’s the 9th Doctor’s turn with our review of The Long Game. Good luck with the competition and until then – Allons-y!

    The News

Series 10 starts filming next week, yay! Not so yay (depending on your opinion of this character) as we find out that Matt Lucas is returning as Nardole. Hmmm.

Adric is returning! Not in the TV show of course but with the rest of the crowded TARDIS team that we know and love from series 19 for Big Finish! The new three parter will be with us on January next year.

    Merch

    No merch this week :(

    Competition

Either tweet us, post us on Faebook or email us the answer to this question: what words does the War Doctor blast into the wall in the 50th Anniversary story The Day of the Doctor? A winner will DEFINITELY be announced on next week’s show.

    “Robot of Sherwood” Review

A brilliant concept for an episode of Doctor Who; our time travelling Doctor at odds with one of history’s most famous outlaws but does the execution live up to the story?

    The News

If you kept an eye on the auction we told you about last week you would have seen the huge amount the red Dalek from The Dalek Invasion of Earth went for – PS38,000! Overall the auction sold over PS90,000 in total. Phew!

Mark Gatiss has been asked to write an episode for series 10 but not just any episode, a sequel to Sleep No More. As you can imagine, we’re not jumping for joy.

    Competition

We’ve teamed up with our friends at Big Finish and they’ve very kindly given us a copy of the amazing War Doctor box set Only the Monstrous. To win, tell us what words the War Doctor made in the wall in the 50th Anniversary story The Day of the Doctor. Tweet us, leave a post on Facebook or email, the choice is yours. We’ll announce the winner next week. Best of luck.

    “The 10th Doctor Adventures” Review

We’ve spoken many times about this, and you guys have requested many times that we do a Big Finish review so here we are! We’re looking at the recently released The 10th Doctor Adventures but are we thrilled to have the Doctor-Donna team back or does it leave us wishing they’d left it as memories?

    “Victory of the Daleks” Review

War-time Britain, Churchill, ally “Ironside” Daleks and new Paradigm Daleks. Always bashed but how do we feel? Good enough to re-watch or do we shoot it down like a Spitfire dog fight in space?

We weren’t sure how to approach this one really, it’s one that’s been on the shelf un-watched for a long time but is that intentional or is it one of those forgotten gems? Hey Who fans, it’s episode 79. We start a new section of the show this week – Merch Corner which starts after the news. We then have an emotional review of Vincent and the Doctor so let’s do this.

    The News

Who would have thought Series 1 from new Who would be so popular? BBC Worldwide have revealed that at their trade even Showtime, Doctor Who: Series 1 is the most purchased show for broadcast worldwide. Go 9 and Rose!

Sad news now. Actor Jon Rollason who played journalist Harold Chorley in the Troughton story The Web of Fear has passed away, aged 84. Involved in various TV projects including The Avengers and Coronation Street, we’ll remember him as the cowardly and often pushy Mr Chorley.

With lots of mud slinging going on with Netflix at the moment and their imminent withdrawal of Who from it’s service, we have good news for our Canadian friends. Streaming service CraveTV have picked up the contract to show Who later this year. Starting with Series 9 after in broadcasts on Space, all previous 8 series’ will then be added by the end of the year. Some good news at least for some fans.

    Merch Corner

Welcome to Merch Corner, a place to inform you of upcoming Doctor Who collectibles and various other items that, like us, you’ll want to get your hands on. Let’s kick the first one off…

US online store ThinkGeek have a special Cyberman silver vinyl edition of the 50th Anniversary soundtrack titled 50 Years in the TARDIS.

Those amazing looking mini-statues we saw at the official Festival last year are now up for pre-order from Robert Harrop.

If you’ve heard of Loot Crate then this variation on it might interest you. Nerd Block’s March offering has at least one Who item inside along with some other cool movie franchise gifts.

    “Vincent and the Doctor” Review

Hello again Matt Smith! Yes we’re back with The Doctor and Amy as they travel back in time to try and save one of the greatest artists we’ve ever known. It’s full of emotion and touching moments but does it get us going or is it like watching paint dry?

Thank you for listening. Next week it’s the long awaited return of Mr Pertwee as we review The Claws of Axos so remember to post your thoughts on that. Until then have a great week and remember – Allons-y!

Hey Who fans and welcome to episode 78. Before we fly back to 1966 let’s do the waffle, I mean, er, news…

    The News

Titan Comics have announced the date for this year’s Doctor Who Comics Day. That day is Saturday 9th July which is sure to see some events happening all over the place. Last year there was a good event held at Forbidden Planet in London so we’re expecting a similar thing. Go Titan!

According to new figures from the BBC, Doctor Who has come fourth in the top ten most loved show on iPlayer. Yes, apparently there’s a favourite/love/whatever icon within iPlayer which Who fans clearly have been pressing quite a bit. Must remember to do that now.

If you’re heading to the Doctor Who Experience soon you’re in for a treat as a load of new props and other goodies from series 9 are being added for our up-close viewing pleasure. These will be on show from Wednesday 2nd March and if that wasn’t enough, the Tardis Tours are back! Yes, from Saturday 20th February through to Sunday 6th March you’ll be able to set foot on the iconic Tardis set and be like the actual Doctor! Now would be a good time to get your asses to Cardiff.

    “The War Machines” Review

We’re visiting the 1st Doctor and those lethal robots in all it’s black and white glory this week. We have a lot of love for Mr Hartnell but does this story stand up in quality to his greatness or are we left to wonder 60’s London, wishing we were back in full colour?

Thank you for stopping by the Tardis and your comments for this week’s review story. Next week is Matt Smith’s Vincent and the Doctor which we’re looking forward to. Remember to follow us on your preferred social channel for the latest updates, tidbits and more waffle. Until then week – Allons-y!

Hey Who fans, it’s episode 77. Without further ado, news and reviews awaits so… allons-y!

    The News

Steven Moffat has bagged himself an OBE! Yes, still current show runner was given the award in this years honours for his services to drama and we think it’s thoroughly deserved. We may not have agreed with or liked all of Moffat’s decisions during his time as head writer but you can’t argue with his tireless dedication and work ethic.

You may remember a couple of weeks ago we told you about a Kickstarter project to bring the classic Doctor Who pinball machine into a digital format. Well, it’s not reached 100% of it’s funding goal, woo-hoo! Awesome job to those who backed this, we can’t wait to play it.

Series 10 is underway! Yes, pre-production is getting into motion and filming begins this May. It’s good to know that things are still happening and they’re nearly into filming, here’s looking forward to those official pics from the production team.

    “42” Review

Series 3 is generally considered pretty good but this story is often overlooked. Claustrophobic, suspense and eery possession make this an interesting concept plus it’s well times as it was Chris Chibnall’s first story for Who. Are we impressed or running from the sun with this one?

Thank you for listening, next week we go old school as we travel back to the Hartnell years so look out for the post on Facebook, we always look forward to your thoughts. Until then week – Allons-y!

Big Blue Box Podcast - Episode 76

Welcome Who fans to episode 76! Some great news items to get through then onto our review of one of the 7th Doctor’s strangest stories – Delta and the Bannermen.

    The News

The brilliant Lethbridge-Stewart novels from Candy Jar Books are getting the audio book treatment in conjunction with Fantom Films. Read by Terry Molloy, famous as portraying Davros in the show, the audio books will be available to order individually or as a bundle directly from Fantom Films.

BBC Books are to re-issue seven of the old Target novelisations; Doctor Who and the Zarbi by Bill Strutton (First Doctor); Doctor Who and the Web of Fear by Terrance Dicks (Second Doctor); Doctor Who and the Dinosaur Invasion by Malcolm Hulke (Third Doctor); Doctor Who and the Genesis of the Daleks by Terrance Dicks (Fourth Doctor); Doctor Who: The Visitation by Eric Saward (Fifth Doctor); Doctor Who: Vengeance on Varos by Philip Martin (Sixth Doctor) and Doctor Who: Battlefield by Marc Platt (Seventh Doctor). Looking forward to these as they’re always good reads.

Comic book creator and producer Andrew Wildman has put out some story board cards of when he was working on the Day of the Doctor and it shows some scenes including 9th Doctor Chris Eccleston. Some interesting scenes with him in the barn on Gallifrey with a young girl now known as The Moment along with some other expressions. John Hurt was awesome as the War Doctor but we can’t help think what the story would be like with Eccleston instead?

    “Delta and the Bannermen” Review

It’s a bit of a bonkers review this one as we take a trip to Shangri-la holiday camp with the 7th Doctor and Mel. Cameos, green babies, Welsh holiday-ers, rock ‘n roll and dodgy American accents. Are we swept up in the 50’s nostalgia or does this story leave us broke down like the holiday bus?

That’s it for this week. If you’ve not yet watched Delta and the Bannermen it’s worth a go for the entertainment value alone. Next week we visit the Tennant era and review 42, written by new showrunner Chris Chibnall. Until then – Allons-y!

Hey Who fans! Big big news this week but before that the obligatory waffle then later our review of series 1’s Dalek.

    The News

Mr Capaldi has been busy the last week, not with Who but with more real life problems and stories. Taking time out from his schedule he made a trip to Jordan to visit some of the refugee camps and see the tragedy there. A very touching video is online featuring Capaldi himself and his experiences there. All respect to Capaldi.

A new Kickstarter campaign started recently which is sure to please any retro pinball machine fans. Video game developers Farsight Studios, who specialise in taking actual classic pinball machines and digitising them to play on computers and consoles, have acquired a classic Doctor Who pinball machine but need help in getting the required licensing to bring it to market. Check out their campaign on Kickstarter and give it a backing if you want to get hold of this awesome bit of Doctor Who gaming nostalgia.

BIG NEWS! As you will all be aware – Stephen Moffat has announced he’ll be stepping down as show runner next year and will be replaced by previous Who writer and creator of the brilliant Broadchurch Chris Chibnall. Moffat will be with us for one more series after this years Christmas Special and then Chibnall with take over from 2018. This does leave a gap in broadcast unfortunately as we’re getting no new Who until Christmas this year, sad face. We’ve got lots to discuss on this and we’d like your comments too so let us know.

    “Dalek” Review

Fantastic! We’re back in 2005 this week and witness the Dalek’s on our screen for the first time in modern Who and for quite a while previously. Can a lone, menacing Dalek and a petrified Doctor create enough of a story to keep us in suspense or does this one crash down a flight of stairs like a Dalek with a faulty levitate?

Thank you as always for sending in your clips and reviews. If you listen on iTunes or the Podcasts app (anything on Apple basically) if you could give us a review that would be amazing. Next week is going to be… interesting as we visit the 7th Doctor story Delta and the Bannerman. Until then – Allons-y!

Hey Who fans! Before we go crashing into Karn for our review of The Brain of Morbius we have some Who news for you.

    The News

Series 9 picks up a Golden Tomato Award. Movie and TV review site Rotten Tomatoes has awarded series 9 the most reviewed show, smashing!

Russell T Davies has picked up the Outstanding Contribution to Writing Award at the prestigious annual Writers’ Guild of Great Britain Awards. He was thrilled to be receiving an award from fellow writers and praises the Writers’ Guild for it’s good work. Nice job RTD.

Sad news now. The creator of the Zygons Robert Banks Stewart has passed away at the age of 84. After a successful career writing scripts for a number of television shows he’ll be remembered by Who fans as the creator of the Zygons but also penning the brilliant story The Seeds of Doom, bringing us the Krynoid no less!

    “The Brain of Morbius” Review

Back now to the 4th Doctor era with our review of this Frankenstein-esque tale. The Doctor and Sarah Jane are in trouble again but who is trying to kill them off, the Sisterhood of Karn or Solon? Are we huge fans of this one or do we loose our heads?

Hey Who fans! We have some short news this week before bounding into our review of The God Complex.

    The News

The new spin-off show which is due to air this Autumn is now to be co-produced by BBC America. While originally going to be produced solely by BBC Wales as per the regular show, this is now being made (and also broadcast) with our friends across the pond.

The ever child like 7th Doctor Sylvester McCoy is to check-in to the real life Marigold Hotel. A new documentary on BBC 2 later this month will record the antics of a bunch of senior citizens as they embark on a long holiday to India to see if this is the retirement life for them. Cue much larking about and spoon playing!

    “The God Complex” Review

We take a trip back to series 6 now and pull out one of the isolated stories. Themes of faith, fear and goodbyes test the team of The Doctor, Amy and Rory but how do we feel about it? A worthy re-watch or is it best left in room 11?

Trading card company Topps have released a new set of Doctor Who cards in the US. Featuring over 200 cards including some specials and signed cards, these are sure to take off. We’ll let you know if and when they decide to release them here in the UK.

    “Revelation of the Daleks” Review

We travel back to the 6th Doctor’s era this week and take a look at one of the lesser spoken about Dalek stories. Colin Baker’s usual brash-self is always under scrutiny but how does the story stack up for us? Do we drown in the monster-infested pools on Necros or do we strut proudly in our fancy blue cloak?

Merry Christmas Who fans! This is it, the last episode of 2015. We round up the highlights of the year then finish up The End of Time with our review of Part 2. Let’s get Christmas Day going…

    Year in Review

No news this week but instead we pick out some highlights from 2015.

“The End of Time – Part 2” Review

We conclude 2015 with our review of The End of Time Part 2. David Tennant’s final episode literally goes out with a bang. Does it match Part 1’s action and emotion? Who are we kidding, of course it does, but do our review scores reflect it’s rollercoaster of emotions?

    The final trivia question

Last week we asked you – Who is the fist person the Fourth Doctor offers a jelly baby? The answer is – Sarah Jane Smith.

We’re retiring the weekly trivia questions for now. They might make a return but for now we’ll give them some time out. Thank you to all who’ve given us their answers, some hardcore fact loving Who fans out there!

    Free wallpaper pack

As a thank you for listening this year we’re giving away a free wallpaper pack. Garry has used his design skills and crafted a set of wallpapers you won’t see anywhere else. Hop over now and download, enjoy!

Garry and Adam would like to say a huge thank you for sticking with us throughout 2015, it’s been a truly great year for us. We really appreciate you listening and contributing each and every week, it wouldn’t be the show it is without you. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.

Our next show will be on 1st January next Friday with our review of the Christmas Special The Husbands of River Song.

Until then have a fantastic Christmas whatever you’re doing and we look forward to enjoying Doctor Who with you all in 2016 – Allons-y!

Series 9 may well be over (until the Christmas Special that is) but we’ve still got loads of Who to review and discuss. This week we get stuck into The End of Time Part 1 but before that, everything that’s been happening in the world of Who…

    The News

The BBC have recently made the scripts available for the last two episode of series 9 Heaven Sent and Hell Bent. If you want an insight into what makes the foundation for an episode of Doctor Who then they’re worth a read.

Next week’s Christmas Special the Husbands of River Song have had the broadcast times revealed and it’s a bit of a mixed bag. Here in the UK we’re fortunate to get it first at 5:15pm on Christmas Day, followed by our friends in the US and Canada later that day. Other countries such as Australia, New Zealand and some parts of Europe will have to wait until Boxing Day.

Those clever peeps over at Rubbertoe Replicas have given us a detailed close up of the new Sonic Screwdriver to be used by Peter Capaldi. It looks wonderful and I think will all be on our Christmas lists next year. If you can afford it that is!

“The End of Time – Part 1” Review

It’s been a long time coming but Garry has been wanted to chew the fat on this one with Adam for a while. Tennant’s last story is packed full of action, humour and sadness and it’s these things that often divide fans. What do we make of it though… RTD magic or epic failure?

    This week’s trivia question

Last week we asked you – What is the Paternoster Gang’s address? The answer is – 13 Paternoster Row, London.

This week’s question is – Who is the first person the Fourth Doctor offers a jellybaby? Give us your answer in the comments below or post it on Twitter or Facebook. Good luck!

Thank you for your thoughts on our review episode, we cannot wait for Part 2 next week so be sure to give us your reviews for that too, look out for the Facebook post. Until next time – Allons-y!
