First Doctor, Vicki, Ian, & Barbara The Doctor and his crew swap giant insects for a Lionheart. It's another historical story set surprisingly during the crusades. "The TARDIS arrives in the middle of a holy war between King Richard the Lionheart and the Saracen leader, Saladin, in 12th Century Palestine. As the Doctor and his Companions explore their surroundings, they are caught up in a Saracen ambush and Barbara is taken. A newly-knighted Sir Ian must make haste to rescue Barbara, whilst the Doctor finds it difficult to stay out of trouble in the court of the King..." Scrolls Chapter 18: Apocalypse Wow

    Geek Syndicate

    Direct Podcast Download

    13:52 (GMT) - 8 Mar 2012

After a short hiatus the Scrolls team is back, just in time for the end of the world. Join us as we explore the subject of apocalypse with regards to our beloved genres of science fiction, horror and fantasy. Books discussed include: Good Omens, The Tripods trilogy, Wolf In Shadow, The Last Battle, The Stand, The Road, Strength Of Stones, The Mist and Z For Zachariah.

We start our exploration with 'Judgement Today,' as cultures, civilisations and species face the threat of extinction. Why do writers return to these uber-threats time and again and what do we, the readers get out of it? In the middle section 'Armageddon Outta Here' we look at the last survivors trying to make sense of the end-times, seeking a last bastion or just trying to survive. What does 'The End' mean in real and psychological terms to mankind? We wrap up with 'Post-Post-Apocalyptic,' running our eyes over some brave new worlds to see what some authors have used armageddon to achieve in terms of recreating civilisation from the ashes of the past.

Which all sounds very high-faluting until you remember that this is Scrolls and most of the time we're stuffing our faces, making obscene jokes, wandering off-topic or discussing things that we may not actually, properly... (technically) have read.

Therefore, in addition to the packed programme you can discover who Really wrote the music for The Omen, hear our review of a book that doesn't really exist, learn how to kill and cook a certain podcaster if things get particularly bad and (if you listen very carefully) you may even discover an Easter Egg.

See below for the various links we mention in the podcast.

    City Of Hell Chronicles

    Lily Child's Feardom

100 Horrors: Tales Of Horror In The Blink Of An Eye

Human Slaves (In An Insect Nation)

    Kim Curran's 'Shift'

See you in the next world. In the mean time, keep reading.

Do they think it still stands up as the classic that it is purported to be or is it another clunker following on from the Planet of The Dead? All I will say is that for once, they both agree! Admittedly this could make for a very dull podcast. Also, the news this week sheds light on how the production of series 7 is coming along, the casting rumour mill and the sad news of the passing of another Who actor.

    18:39 (GMT) - 4 Mar 2012

After five and a half years of middling Doctor Who talk and wildly inaccurate discussion about the programme and those who create it, The Three Who Rule reach the amazing milestone of their 300th episode of Radio Free Skaro. It's been an epic ride from virtual obscurity for our first two years of existence to where we are today, and what better way to celebrate this event than the return of the Miniscope! In this instalment, we discuss the work of minor director Nicholas Mallett, whose Doctor Who output ranged from the very worst ("Paradise Towers") to the very best ("The Curse of Fenric"), and everything in between ("The Mysterious Planet"). Given Warren's rampant distaste for the Sylvester McCoy era, surely this will be a painful experience for him...or will it? This is the type of intrigue that has kept this show going for 300 episodes, and will push it into the future for at least a couple more.
