Tangents are fun or something like that.

Kiyan and Dylan watched the only serial not to star the Doctor or any of his companions. It was also the only one episode serial in the classic series. As a result, Kiyan and Dylan go on a large Dalek timeline tangent in the middle of explaining the episode. Misison to the Unknown was written by Terry Nation and was aired on the 9th of October 1965.

It’s seems like so vile a sin that we’ve done 40 episodes without ever reading a book by Kate Orman, so this month we do just that: it’s the Virgin New Adventure The Room with No Doors featuring the Seventh Doctor and Chris.  From the back cover:

‘Dear Doctor,’ wrote Chris, ‘I give up.’

Swordplay, samurai, magic, aliens, adventure, excitement…Who needs them?

The Doctor and Chris travel to sixteenth-century Japan, a country gripped by civil war as feudal lords vie for control.  Anything could tip the balance of power.  So when a god falls out of the sky, everyone wants it.

As villagers are healed and crops grow far too fast, the Doctor and Chris try to find the secret of the miracles – before two rival armies can start a war over who owns the god.

Chris soon finds himself alone – except for an alien slaver, a time-traveling Victorian inventor, a gang of demons, an old friend with suspicious motives, a village full of innocent bystanders, and several thousand samurai.

Without the Doctor, someone has to take up the challenge of adventure and stop the god falling into the wrong hands.  Someone has to be a hero – but Chris isn’t sure he wants to be a hero any more.

Orman has written just over a dozen novels for the different ranges, including one for Telos Publishing and another in Virgin’s series of Benny Summerfield novels.  It’s notable that she became the first female writer in the series with the debut of The Left-Handed Hummingbird.

Sit back, relax, pour yourself a thimbleful of sake, and listen in as we discuss The Room with No Doors.

We never explained how Al, Doc and The Rev escaped the supernatural attack at the Devil's Hump dig in the closing seconds of Podcast 010. Counter-intuitively, given the Doctor Who connection, the resolution is even more thrilling than the cliffhanger. However, explanations must wait as this week we find our podcasting heroes very much the worse for wear.

All those weeks visiting iconic drinking establishments from Doctor Who lore have taken their toll on the livers of The Diddly Dumbers. On medical advice, the Three Who Drool have retired to Llanfairfach in South Wales for an intense course of detoxification at The Nuthutch.

Wracked by delirium tremens, the Diddly Dumbers see visions of creepy crawlies running all over the house and their thoughts turn naturally to instances of giant insects in Doctor Who. Listen in as, between restorative nibbles at Nancy's homegrown fungus, the boys reminisce about the Zarbi, Menoptera, Venom Grubs and Optera from The Web Planet, the Wirrn from The Ark in Space and the Tritovores from The Planet of the Dead.

It's the last week in May, which means it will soon be June! And you know what that means!?! If you answered "The New Adventures of Bernice Summerfield  is coming out!", then you must either work for Big Finish, or be Josh. In his excitement over the impending release, Josh has taken over the subject matter of the podcast, and it's all Benny, all the time! This week, that means a return to the Doctor Who Magazine comic strip in the days where Benny graced it's pages. That means it time to talk about Emperor of the Daleks, by Paul Cornell and Lee Sullivan! In a linking of continuity you wouldn't believe, this comic shows everyone how Davros went from being arrested by Daleks to leading his own faction of Imperial Daleks! Which wouldn't be complete without a visit to Spiridon of course! Ashley, Josh, and special guest Jeff Polier also take some time to answer what old comic concept or character they'd like see return to the strips! The Oncoming Storm... This time, we've got two Docs, a Daak, and the loveliest archeologist ever to grace Doctor Who!

In this week's episode, we have some more Torch-words about Torchwood, as Brandon visits "Countrycide" (Series 1, Episode 6) and we both check out "They Keep Killing Suzie" and "Random Shoes" (Episodes 8 and 9). One of them leaves you empty as you ponder the inevitability of death. The other leaves you hopeful as you ponder the inevitability of death. Torchwood!

Bonus note: You should listen to The Listmakers. Yes, yes you should.
