  • Gallifrey 21

    5 March 2010 (5:22am GMT)
Episode Duration: 0 minutes and 0 seconds

For those who don't know, yours truly attended the recent Gallifrey 21 convention in Los Angeles, CA (Feb 26-28). As you might expect, the entire experience was rather fantastic. So fantastic in fact, that days later we still haven't quite recovered. We could go on and on about all the amazing & unexpected experiences we had at the convention, but we won't. All we can say right now is that we somehow feel different, somewhat changed, when it comes to our shared love of Doctor Who.

By now we had expected to post a new(er) episode of our regular Guide to the Whoverse, but suddenly we have been left reeling, thinking, "What else can we do to reflect on the convention?" Well we're still thinking about it. Never fear, more HHG2W will eventually materialze, we're just contemplating whether we should take some time out to react to this whole affair that was Gallifrey 2010, and if so, in what way.

In the meantime, after examining Radio Free Skaro's glorious recording set-up up close and 1st hand at Gally, we are also in the process of waiting for our new microphone, etc. to come in to further improve our own audio production. [Watch this space] for more Hitchhiker's Guide to the Whoverse coming to you soon!

  • HHG2W #4 The Mona Lisa

    13 February 2010 (9:32am GMT)
Episode Duration: 0 days, 0 hours, 2 minutes and 37 seconds

    Direct Podcast Download

The Da Vinci Code was quite popular at the time this entry was originally produced. What a preposterous work of fiction that was. It's rather more interesting to note the Doctor's role in the production of the mulitple [authentic] copies of this noteworthy work of art. What? You weren't aware the painting hanging in the Louvre is a copy? Listen on weary traveller...

We now present to you our 4th entry originally produced August 20, 2006. Look for HHG2W #5 Hiatus to appear on this feed approximately February 27, 2010. Eek! We'll be at Gallifrey 21 during this time. If we're lucky we might grab some audio from the convention for this feed.

Finally... A better representation of what we do here at the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Whoverse, that is we ineptly try to explain common terms found in the Doctor Who universe that any time tot could probably expertly explain to you in half the time.

A chameleon circuit is not quite the easiest thing to explain. By the very nature of the beast it can appear in the guise of many countless different forms, not the least of which is a very famous Trock band.

  • HHG2W #1 The Hitchhiker's Guide

    5 January 2010 (10:01pm GMT)
Episode Duration: 0 days, 0 hours, 1 minutes and 17 seconds

    Direct Podcast Download

Once upon a time on July 20, 2006 an awkward, wheezy little child named Douglas was born. This is not his story. Rather, we shall deal with a most unearthly podcast that was also born on the same day.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Whoverse is just what it appears to be... A satirical blatant rip-off of a much more successful publication/volume/franchise
, but we shan't trouble ourselves with that minute detail right now. Prepare yourself for some grand anticipointment* as this podcast isn't very good. It wasn't created out of love, more out of abandonment, and it shows. We cannot promise that it will get any better in time, but we can promise that it will be about time. The Doctor's anyway.

Episode 1 was originally conceived to be a introduction / promo of sorts. It was our intention to share our humble little production(s) with other [better] and already established Doctor Who Podcasts. Back in 2006 both Podshock & WhoCast answered that call. Because this entry is very promo like we don't get very deep into the meat of the Whoverse just yet. All in good time...

Oh my, how did this happen?

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Whoverse had it's origins way back in 2006 when I was trying to come up with a way to participate in my 1st & favorite podcast of the time Doctor Who: Podshock. I made a few initial entries before the rest of my life caught up with me. Thus began a production hiatus that lasted until 2009. I was out of the "game" so to speak because I was actually without a computer of my own for much of 2007 up until spring 2009. Thanks to Cat (@fancyfembot) I was finally brought out of retirement and "properly" introduced to the production side of making a podcast. The Sci-Fi Party Line podcast was my first opportunity to really flex & hone in my podcast audio editing/producing skills.

    Enter Bridging the Rift:

Just last night, as I'm writing this, I was listening to Bridging the Rift #14. I was very surprised when I suddenly heard co-host Nat (@thirtysix) mention my humble Doctor Who audio project HHG2W. He reiterated an idea I had been pondering myself for a while now. Up until now, new entries of the HHG2W were randomly inserted into episodes of Podshock (@Podshock). During the podcast discussion, Nat brought up the desire to have the HHG2W made available on it's very own feed. Nice and convenient bite sized morsels one could keep readily available on their iPod.

    Well here we are.

To date there are 6 pre-existing episodes of the HHG2W. I will present them here on this feed and add more once they are made and after each respective entry has premiered on Podshock. Unfortunately, I don't anticipate new episodes debuting very often. It takes considerable time for me to research, write, record, and produce each new installment. Plus, in addition to HHG2W, the majority of my free time is dedicated to producing the "mother" program: Sci-Fi Party Line. I also reserve the right to add other Doctor Who related audio flights-of-fancy (I produce) to this feed when I feel so inclined.
