  • Doctor Who - Who's He? #51 Making love with his ego

    4 March 2012 (8:12pm GMT)
Episode Duration: 0 days, 0 hours, 51 minutes and 22 seconds

    Direct Podcast Download

This week Phil and Paul travel back in time and give their opinions on the next 2009 special, The Waters of Mars. Do they think it still stands up as the classic that it is purported to be or is it another clunker following on from the Planet of The Dead? All I will say is that for once, they both agree! Admittedly this could make for a very dull podcast. Also, the news this week sheds light on how the production of series 7 is coming along, the casting rumour mill and the sad news of the passing of another Who actor.

James Christmas ghost stories and The Eagle comic while Paul insists that they try their hardest not to pick holes in the story.

Meanwhile, in the news, writers and directors are confirmed for series 7, guest news for the Doctor Who convention, some Doctor Who tat and Phil plugs other podcasts.

After last weeks show, the lads are back in their comfort zone with their continuation of their series 5 retrospective and this week it's the turn of The Lodger. However, not all went according to plan as they were beset by technical problems, which made each other think their connection had dropped which lead to a bit of confusion. But once things got back on track, they rattled through but couldn't help but keep making comparisions to Closing Time (well, Phil did anyway) and why discovering Matt Smiths comedic talents in this story was a slippery slope for the programme makers.

However, they are a little distracted this week as shortly before recording, official confirmation came through from the the BBC that two long lost episodes of Doctor Who had been rediscovered. And what with the announcement this week of a Doctor Who game for consoles and the PC, Phil was on cloud nine. Pity then that they had to talk about a bit of a damp squib of a Who story afterwards. It ruined the mood somewhat.

After two weeks of audio commentary, Phil and Paul return to reviewing duties with a look back at The Hungry Earth. However, neither of them can work up much enthusiasm for this story as not a lot really happens apart from some gaping holes in logic. So the result is an underwhelming and rather dull podcast. Sorry folks.

The lads continue to plough on with the series 5 retrospective with one of their favourite stories from that series, Amy's Choice. Try as they might, they both felt they were struggling with this one as they both agree that this is still one of the best episodes of series 5 but there was nothing to moan about! And an episode of the Who's He? Podcast just isn't the same without someone whinging about something.

Oh I forgot, they whinged about one of this weeks news items, which is the announcement of an official BBC Doctor Who Convention next year which is going to cost the punters £99 per ticket! Still, aside from that, they'll see you there!
