Latest Podcast Episodes

Time is ticking away, the latest 'normal' episode in in editorial limbo and we haven't yet recorded our usual Christmas mayhem, so here's another Book Group episode to keep you all going.  The Heroes could perhaps be described as Sharpe's Waterloo done fantasy-style.  Joe Abercrombie uses it to explore the subject of heroism with all its wrinkles and contradictions.  Set in the same world as the acclaimed First Law Trilogy, Abercrombie introduces a whole new batch characters in such a way that enables new readers to get straight into it, whilst rewarding long-time fans with a few familiar faces.  If you haven't read his stuff before, we're talking a gritty fantasy adventure, full of dark humour and harsh justice.  The focus is always on the characters (a particular strength of this author), with vigorous prose and a suitably cynical tone.

This episode was recorded before Stace got good and angry about the shitty publicity surrounding the Awards, so is much less ranty than you might be expecting. Sorry if that is any way disappointing to you, she really does like listening to a good rant and suspects you are quite a lot like her secretly, and she will try and get good and ranty about another topic next time.

Join our very own roving reporterJames, Luke from The Minute Doctor Who Podcast and friend of the show and long-time DWP listener Tony as they talk about what they thought of Air Lock – episode 3 of the missing story, Galaxy 4.

The British Film Institute screened the restored episode as part of the Missing Belived Wiped event held on Sunday 2nd December 2012.   This was only the second time the episode has been shown in full to an audience in the UK and you can hear the joy asJames, Luke and Tony talk about what can justifiably be described as new Doctor Who, despite it being first transmitted on BBC1 forty-seven years ago!

At the second time of asking, Phil and Paul are giving it another go with Smith and Jones, the season 3 opener. This time they are bit more with it but get easily sidetracked along the way with a discussion on the Doctor kissing his companions - does it still shock or is it old hat now? Phil also manages to get in an impression of Terry Scott and during the recording Paul is visited by the ghost of Jon Pertwee.
And in the news this week, a few items on the 50th Anniversary including events at the BFI next year, Christopher Eccleston being coy about his involvement and what's going on with the good Doctor at Christmas this year with a quick rundown on what ex-Whos stars are appearing in panto this year. And there's also a brief return of Omegas Tat Corner! Just watch out for John Barrowman in panto this year, he'll have your eye out.

The Three Who Rule were reunited (and it felt so good) with Steven's return from Chicago TARDIS…bearing the gift of an interview with Nick Briggs, Jason Haigh-Ellery, and Paul Spragg, whose sterling work in the dramatic audio arts can be appreciated by all and sundry at www.bigfinish.com. News was sparse this week as we enter the calm before the Christmas Special storm, but numerous puzzling references to Ke$ha, a quite sweary Warren and 15 minutes of nonsensical pre-game banter padded out the proceedings nicely.
