119. A Tubigrip in a Bush
On the Time LashBen and Mark continue the Jodie Whittaker/Chris Chibnall era with looks at two races against time without much urgency - 'The Ghost Monument' and 'Enlightenment'.
Struggling to study for their NVQs, Ben and Mark tackle dodgy portrayals of coordination disorders, one of the best cliffhanger resolutions in Doctor Who and the ghost of Sydney Newman.
Whilst back in the 1980s, the first story to be written and directed by women, 'Enlightenment' suffers from dodgy bird hats, mad eyes and the weight of hype for new viewer Mark but wins him round with its high concepts and treatments of class and religion.
But what do the bandages say?

Episode 34 Choc Bit Breast Plates
Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastThis week, Flight Through Entirety is on location in Dartmoor, testing our resistance to fear, burning, pressure, fluid deprivation and immersion in liquids, as we discuss the third story of Tom Baker's first season, The Sontaran Experiment.
Buy the story!
The Sontaran Experiment was released on DVD in 2006/2007. (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)
Links and notes
Fans of posh white people living in orbital space stations will enjoy The Ark in Space, of course, and also Elysium (2013), which makes reasonably good use of Jodie Foster, whatever Brendan says.
Fans of dead teenagers will enjoy The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974).
Dr Josef Mengele worked as an SS Officer in Auschwitz and performed brutal and sadistic experiments on some of the prisoners, as well as assigning many to the gas chambers.
Fans of the Sontaran insectoid robot will enjoy this photograph of the Canada Water Library in Southwark, which looks remarkably like it.

MUTTER'S SPIRAL Podcast 134 - "The Eaters of Light"
Mutter's Spiral PodcastMUTTER'S SPIRAL Podcast this week talks all about "The Eaters of Light", episode 10 of Series 10 (or 36) of DOCTOR WHO. This episode marks the return of classic series writer Rona Munro (Writer of "Survival", the final 7th Doctor story, which was also the final story of the first run of the series) to the WHO family. It's a story of Picts and Romans and Crows and Locusts which we both quite enjoyed. We'll talk about what we liked as well as what could have been a bit better for us. We'll also talk about how things stand heading into the HUGE 2-part finale that starts next week. Plus, there's trivia and a bit of news!
Please have a listen!

Whittaker Away (Goodbye Mr. Chibbs)
WHO 37 - A Doctor Who PodcastIt’s a good thing we waited until the end of the month to record as we had a lot to talk about, although I still was able to edit this down to just an hour and change. We discuss the news of Jodie Whittaker and Chris Chibnall leaving Doctor Who in 2022, we debate whether or not the show should continue, and we also fit some discussion on the Kevin Smith/Masters of the Universe controversy. - JB

Episode 96: The Eaters of Light OR This is Worse Than Jazz
PodcasticaThis week John and Taylor are joined by friend of the show, Mike Solko, to discuss The Eaters of Light! Our first episode of new Who penned by a writer from Classic Who! We all dive deep into ancient Scotland to discover what became of the Ninth Roman Legion and within we find a really solid episode with some powerful callbacks to early Doctor Who. We also speculate on what could possibly happen in the last two episodes of the season.
