Full of the Doctor
Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastThis week, we’re spending a relaxing afternoon on sunny Trenzalore, chatting with friends, visiting people we’ve lost, solving a mystery, bringing up an age-old question, and generally getting everything neatly squared away before the fireworks start this November. It’s The Name of the Doctor.
Notes and links
Nathan’s rant about giving the Doctor unnecessary backstory in The War Games Part 10 can be heard on the Jodie into Terror episode on The Timeless Children.
Earlier this year, Nathan appeared on a podcast called Pull to Open, with Pete Pachal and Chris Taylor, and in every episode they theorise about where you might find Clara in this Doctor Who story. You can hear Nathan’s theory about Clara’s role in The Claws of Axos here.
Here’s El Sandifer’s essay on The Name of the Doctor, and this is how she describes Richard E Grant as the Great Intelligence: “But Grant is putting no effort into the part, playing him as a cliched bit of leering smugness. Which is, of course, exactly what the part calls for – a big name actor basically phoning it in.”
And finally: Nathan has a habit of making fun of Chris Chibnall’s minimalist approach to publicising Doctor Who by repeatedly posting a screencap of Art Malik from the exciting trailer at the end of The Woman Who Fell to Earth. You can see him in action here.

4.7 On Set with Gary Gillatt
Doctor Who - Pieces of EighthIMAGINE how thrilling it must have been to have Doctor Who back in production, after a seven year gap - and then flying to Canada to see it unfold before your eyes.
That's exactly what happened to Gary Gillatt during his tenure as the editor of Doctor Who Magazine, becoming one of just a handful of British journalists who were given access to the set in Vancouver, and had the thrill of walking through Richard Hudolin's control and cloister room sets.
In this episode, he shares his memories of how the trip came about, and how his writing for The Independent made a big impression on Paul McGann.

Episode 55: Alternative Media and Chicago Tardis Updates!
Doctor Who Collectors PodcastBefore the time of Video recording and such, there were two companies that ventured into alternative media to allow children to watch a show at home! Chad Valley and GAF (Viewmaster) made that possible. The Doctor Who Give-A-Show Projector from 1965 and Viewmaster Dr. Who Full Circle and Castrovalva in 1982/83. 4.6 Cass
Doctor Who - Pieces of EighthWHEN the Eighth Doctor was forced to regenerate, it all came after a spaceship crash with a pilot named Cass.
The Night of the Doctor gave us a new and unexpected insight into the Time War, as we heard about the conflict through the eyes of Cass - played by Emma Campbell-Jones - and did so much world building in seconds.
This week we chat with Emma about her experiences in The Night of the Doctor, to the delight of Kenny - it's another Scot on the podcast!

#213 - The Monkey Wrench of Rassilon
Doctor Who: The Metebelis 2After a month's hiatus due to travels and Ben's bout with COVID, we're back talking about Jodie Whittaker headlining the GaliffreyOne convention next year and a look at her finale trailer. What are Tegan and Ace up to? Is the Master using his CTE on the Doctor's friends? Is that the UNIT logo or an upside down Death Star? Much speculation about what it all could mean and possibly even spoilers if we're right. (We're not… probably.) Opening and closing music is from the soundtrack of Flux by Segun Akinola. We recorded this episode on 9 and 14 October 2022.

Episode 47 - The Invisible Enemy (with Si Hart)
Doctor Who LiteratureFor the third straight week on Doctor Who Literature, we are examining the novelization of a Bob Baker & Dave Martin TV episode. Made at the very beginning of the Graham Williams era, the first story produced as part of Season 15, this proves to be a somewhat rocky maiden voyage for Doctor Who's incoming producer, and the scripts that Williams was handed... probably did not help matters. There are some terrific ideas on the page and some terrific visual effects on screen, especially in Part One, but, this week's guest (the inaugural member of the Doctor Who Literature Five-Timers club), Si Hart (@Si_Hart) and I, sure have a lot of fun breaking down what went wrong.
Jason and Si also apply our Retrospective Script Editor hats to try and improve several Classic Doctor Who stories, such as "The Time Monster", and we revisit a COVID-inspired trip through the Jon Pertwee era.
Among the many other places you can catch Si is on the Maximum Power Podcast, which is about to launch its second season.
And catch Jason on the most recent episode of the Trap One Podcast discussing the Power of the Doctor trailer.

Shot in a Hurry
Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastIn a far-off galaxy in a distant future, a band of misfit soldiers in a comical castle await the arrival of an enemy long thought dead — thousands upon thousands of killer Cybermen. Angie and Archie don’t seem particularly impressed, though, and neither do Nathan, Richard, James and Peter. It’s Nightmare in Silver.
Notes and links
Richard is reminded of the Hammer film Vampire Circus (1972), which features Lalla Ward, Adrienne Corri and Laurence Payne, which means that we can now regard The Leisure Hive as its canonical sequel. He also mentions the 1988 film Waxwork, which features genre stalwarts David Warner and John Rhys-Davies.
Neil Gaiman handles childhood fears so beautifully in The Graveyard Book (2008) that Nathan and Richard recommend that you go and read it at once. It’s the story of Nobody Owens, who lives in a graveyard and is raised by ghosts after his family is murdered. Beautiful, funny and haunting.
And some film trivia that you can use to surprise and delight your remaining friends: as Richard says, Mel Brooks was one of the producers (uncredited) of Star Trek’s David Cronenberg’s 1986 film, The Fly.

4.5 Gareth
Doctor Who - Pieces of EighthLET'S BE honest - as a Doctor Who fan, we'd all love to appear in the show in one form or another, whether as an actor, writer, director, producer, or even just in the background.
It would, of course, be an impossible dream to think that you could get a small on-screen speaking part, especially if you were a fan who lived in Canada....
But dreams can come true, and that's exactly what happened for Jeremy Radick, who got to appear in the part of Gareth the security guard in the TV Movie.
This week, we meet Jeremy, and discover what a huge fan of the show he is!

Episode 264: Asylum of the Daleks OR Stir Eggs, 8 Min.
PodcasticaWe're back, friends! Thanks for waiting that extra week! Totally appreciated. This time around we look at Asylum of the Daleks in which Amy & Rory are on the rocks, The Doctor is somehow both the predator of the Daleks & their temporary savior, and we meet Oswin who's currently working on her own series for Food Network, but it's not going so well. How long are you supposed to "stir" those "eggs" again? And will no one think of the milk!? We also talk about the trailer (finally!) for The Power of the Doctor as well as the super exciting Gallifrey One news!
