Hey Who fans and welcome. Along with the news round up I give you my review of The Caretaker and if it floated my Tardis, I mean, boat.

The News

Sadly, actress Maggie Stables has passed away. Having appeared in twenty Big Finish audio plays, most notably as companion Evelyn to the Sixth Doctor, it's a big shame for fans of hers. I hadn't heard her work until I found out about her passing but after listening to some samples she really did give great performances.

Now the BBC have vacated their main head office (which I think, for the record, is a huge mistake and confusing decision) there's lots of equipment and TV stuff lying around which is going to be auctioned off. Peter Pattinson Auctioneers will hold various online auctions from Tues 4th November to Friday 7th November. One of the items is a huge 3.5m wide by 2.5m high canvas backdrop of Matt Smith as the 11th Doctor used in promotions. If you've got the room for it, it's a great piece to own. Details for the auction can be found here (scroll down to BBC Memorabilia).

Titan Comics will be showing off the new 12th Doctor comic run at New York Comic Con on the 10th and 11th of October. You'll also be able to pick up NYCC exclusive covers for the already launched 10th and 11th Doctor comics too. Wow, lots of variants for this one!

"The Caretaker" Review

Another one of those Who episodes that's full of fun and humour that's sure to please the kids this time. The Caretaker wasn't the strongest episode this series but certainly wasn't terrible. Afterwards we're still left asking "who is Missy and what is the Neversphere?"

Martin, Andy and Derek try to mop up the aftermath of this week’s episode: The Caretaker. And more things spill out as they bounce between messy subjects such as Missing Episodes and Conspiracy Theories. Listen quickly before someone calls health and safety.

This double review of "Time Heist" and "The Caretaker" opens with the Diddly Dumbers being pursued through the vaults of the Karabraxos Bank by fiendish monsters from their childhood nightmares. At the last minute, our heroes manage to escape by Transmat and land in the empty staff room of Coal Hill School.

Along the way, the Three Who Drool discuss the late Dr Evelyn Smythe and identify why the design of the Skovox Blitzer reminded them of Christmas morning 1980. They debate why different vocal stresses are given to street and road names and explore Steven Moffat’s push to reboot the new Doctor as the Peter Cushing incarnation.

For those of you unfamiliar with UK TV banking commercials from the 1980s, the yellow Griffin was used to advertise Midland Bank (now swallowed up by HSBC) and the pig was used to advertise Nat West Bank.

Dr Evelyn Smythe is a fictional character played by Maggie Stables in a series of audio plays produced by Big Finish Productions based on the long-running British science fiction television series Doctor Who. Skilled exponent of the deep cover persona, the Doctor wields a broom and a non-sonic screwdriver in his new-found role as The Caretaker.

Naturally, this makes life very difficult for the peripatetic Clara and her new (but already long-suffering) beau, Mr Danny Pink.

A Skovox Blitzer is whizzing around disarming policemen and vandalising school property but the real fireworks happen in the TARDIS when Smith-Oswald-Pink triangle finally comes together and seemingly blows instantly apart.

Danny gives Clara an ultimatum (surely flowers are more romantic?) Courtney defiles the time-space machine with her disruptive effluence and Space Dad gets proprietorial over his impossible little princess.

But does all this a decent Doctor Who episode make?
