That's right. We're pretty excited about this week's companion topic. Join Deb, Erika, Lynne, and Tansy as we talk about the most educated companions--the academics, the doctors, the scientists, and more. What is it about them that makes them appealing? Is there anything that can be off-putting to audiences? Does Romana count? The answer to that last one is debated hotly (but laughingly)!

What do you think of the brainier companions? Do you see yourself in them? Or do you seem them being too full of their own capabilities? Let us know in the comments!

It's Extra!-time again. Join Deb, Erika, Katrina, and Tansy as we get a little silly (and tangential...surprise, surprise) while talking about regenerations. What makes a "worthy" regeneration for the Doctor? Which ones make us uncomfortable? What would we like to see in the future? (Besides a better Skype connection...grr.) What would we like to see from the past? All this plus lots of giggles!

  • Ep 69 - Ace is Ace!

    25 February 2015 (12:30pm GMT)
Episode Duration: 0 days, 1 hours, 8 minutes and 11 seconds

    Direct Podcast Download

This week we focus on one companion--the winner of our Verity! companions poll! Join Deb, Erika, Liz, and Lynne, as we talk about Ace! Our personal feelings about Ace as a companion are mixed, but we all agree (mostly) on her importance as a companion. It's pretty easy to draw a line between Ace and Rose, and we do just that! We also chat a lot about Ace: as compared to other women on screen at the time, as a character to identify with (or not), and as a tuxedo-wearer.

What are your feelings about Ace? Do you love her attitude? Or does she put you off as a viewer? Or something in between? Let us know in the comments!

  • Ep 66 - Companions Who Never Were

    14 January 2015 (12:30pm GMT)
Episode Duration: 0 days, 1 hours, 16 minutes and 10 seconds

    Direct Podcast Download

Our year of companions kicks off in delightful style! Join Deb, Erika, Katrina, and Tansy as we discuss those Doctor Who characters who were almost companions--those who were slated to become TARDIS travelers but never did, as well as those who we wish had stuck around. Deb accidentally invents a new word*. Kat is thoroughly predictable. Erika unabashedly cheats. And Tansy has a list!

Which guest stars do you wish had become full-time companions? Let us know in the comments!

*comfanion, noun; a Doctor Who character not generally considered a companion of the Doctor, but whom a viewer loves so much, they think should have been. The viewer may even argue against popular opinion, claiming their favorite *is* a companion. (Examples: "Bret Vyon is my favorite companion." "He was only in one story! He's a comfanion, at best." -- "Sally Sparrow is my favorite comfanion. I wish the Doctor would've invited her onto the TARDIS.")

    • Erika appreciates Paul Cornell's 11th Blog of Christmas!
    • Kat receives a teeny tiny sonic screwdriver book! (book not sold separately)
    • Tansy is an emotional wreck after reaching the end of Hex's Big Finish run.
    • Deb

Join Deb, Erika, Katrina, Liz, Lynne, and Tansy as we celebrate the season by talking about the last new Doctor Who episode we'll have for a while. It's mostly Christmas cheer all up in here, so if you're looking for a good rant, you're (mostly) in the wrong place. We talk Capaldi, Clara, Danny, Santa, and more!

What did you think of this year's Christmas outing? Was it Santastic? Or ho-ho-horrible? Let us know in the comments!

It's been a great year here at Verity! Thanks to everyone for listening, supporting, and taking part in the conversation!

Episode Duration: 0 days, 1 hours, 17 minutes and 6 seconds

This week sees the last entry in our year of villains. Join Deb, Erika, Liz, and Lynne as we chat about one of the most interesting villains of them all. Who could it be? Why, it's the Doctor himself! There are more than a few times our beloved "hero" does things that are far less-than-heroic. We talk about a number of examples, why they are (or aren't) really villainous, and even slide into a conversation about the nature of evil! Deep stuff. Sorta.

What do you think about the Doctor as a villain? Let us know in the comments.

The year is almost over, but there's still time to finish out our year of villains in style! Join Deb, Erika, Lynne, and Tansy as we talk about the times when the TARDIS has crossed over to the dark side--or seemed to. Or at least acted a little tetchy. Okay, so we realize "villain" is a bit of a strong word, but there were certainly times the TARDIS was antagonistic. And we cover a lot of examples! Here's a list of (I think) all the stories we talk about in this ep:

    • The Edge of Destruction
    • The Daleks' Master Plan
    • The Mind Robber
    • Logopolis
    • Castrovalva
    • Frontios
    • The TV Movie
    • Boom Town
    • The Lodger
    • The Doctor's Wife
    • Let's Kill Hitler
    • Hide
    • Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS
    • Big Finish:
      • The Settling
      • Zagreus

What other examples can you think of? Let us know in the comments. And let us know what you think of the TARDIS as a "baddie"!

    • Tansy revels in a glut of Doctor Who Christmas ornaments, including a (missing) TARDIS!
    • Erika
      • enjoyed the heck out of Chicago TARDIS!
      • wishful-thinks Phil Ford might be the next Doctor Who showrunner!
    • Lynne has action figures:
      • a Mechanoid (which doesn't light cigarettes)!
      • a "Silver Nemesis"-Ace WITH THE PORTRAIT!
    • Deb
      • gives big kudos to Doctor Who: Legacy for including characters from the comics in their advent calendar!
      • excitedly awaits Doctor Who novel re-releases, including Paul Cornell's Human Nature!
