Is It Time To Welcome Back Russell T Davies?
Kasterborous PodkastIn this week’s Kasterborous podKast (with a “K”) James McLean and editor Christian Cawley chat about recent news developments concerning Russell T Davies, from Torchwood to Wizards vs Aliens and, of course, the Doctor Who graphic novel that wasn’t.
We also spend a few moments talking about the Rani and the cyclical abandoning of writers from previous eras throughout the show’s history, something that leads us to wonder if now is the time for Russell to contribute an episode to the series…
You should also look out for our timey-wimey “phrase of the week”, which is cleverly predicted the week (or in this case, two weeks) before it is even recorded.
Just how do we do that?!
(A quick word of context and warning – due to the surprise availability of Andrew Cartmel for last week’s podKast, our original recording for that week is what is presented here. As a result there are references to Hurricane Sandy and Brian Terranova’s absence.)
If you're a new listener (welcome to the podKast!), here's how you can listen to our weekly show:
- Use the player in the top right of each page on Kasterborous.
- Listen with the "pop out" player above, which also allows you to download the podKast to your computer.
- Third, you can take advantage of the RSS feed to subscribe to the podKast for your media player, and also find us on iTunes!

The Oncoming Storm Ep 34: DWM Comics Pureblood & Flashback "Sontara, we hardly knew ye..."
The Oncoming StormAnother week, another slightly belated episode due to management incompentance! But you hosts are glad you could make it for a look at something off the beaten track. The Oncoming Storm is heading back to comic territory, and this time, it's ones that are actually good! Come back to the days where if you wanted Doctor Who comics, you had to look in Doctor Who Magazine. In these golden days, the comics actually tied into the ongoing New Adventures in one big continuity lovefest. This week, it's Benny's first comic appearance as we look at "Pureblood" from DWM 193-196, as well as a single issue story "Flashback" from the DWM Summer special '94. Josh and Ashley talk continuity clashes, Benny's wardrobe choices, and the secret identity of that one guy who looks like William Hartnell (Shh! It's the First Doctor! Don't tell Ashley I told you!) The Oncoming Storm... this time we've got potato heads. Not the nice kind though, the kind that invade you and take your home for a new homeworld. That kind.

Ep-16 Ashy Christmas of Death
Playing Doctor: A Doctor Who PodcastAmericans still haven’t thawed their turkeys for Thanksgiving and we’re already putting up our Christmas trees at the Playing Doctor Podcast! This week we are joined by our long time friend Darryl Lewis of FlyingMonkeyMotoGear.com (he also made our awesome theme music) to discuss the Children in Need special and Christmas Invasion as we begin Series 2 of Doctor Who.
Time’s not the only thing that’s a bit wibbly-wobbly as the Doctor crashes the TARDIS into a truck and the Powell Estate itself just in time to get Rose home for Christmas. He’s got a new face and a touch of narcolepsy for the holidays and Rose is doing all the work to save Christmas from the Robot Santas of Doom Brass Section.
With spinning Christmas Trees of Death, Regeneration Energy Belches and finding Howard’s fruit in your night robes this promises to be one of the better Christmases in London until everyone climbs up on the roof when the Sycorax arrive.
You’ll want to bundle up and put on your winter clothes before you start dreaming of an Ashy Christmas of Death.

The End of the World with Matt Munson
A Mad Man with a BoxSome staunch RTD defending this week from the very smart and talented Matt Munson as we take on the ninth Doctor’s second episode.
I don’t know if we really meant for this to turn into a RTD era vs. Moffat era discussion, but it turned out that way and I think we take a really interesting look at just how much the show has changed since it came back in 2005. There is definitely a lot about RTD’s era that I dislike but it has to be said that he really got it right at the beginning and I think Matt and I make a really good case for that. This was another really fun episode to record.

The Greatest Mo in the Galaxy
Radio RassilonRassifan!
Who's the Daddy? That's quite clever. It works on multiple levels, doesn't it?
What doesn't work is getting Harry, Leeson, Iamwilliam and JNT in a small room together and expecting a podcast to come out of it.
From between the copulating dolphin noises we attempt to discuss The Greatest Show in the Galaxy…we don't get very far. We do get contributions from @terriwestgate, Robert Konigsberg and Chris Buchanan (thanks all) and there is the return of the ubiquitous Iwillbewilliam (@digspinach).
From a small en-suite toilet to a smaller en-suite toilet via Iamwilliam and JNT…
Lady and gentleman, please be bewildered…it's the Radio Rassilon Podcast.

Let's get creative!
The Doctor Who PodcastThe DWP Campervan this week is getting a little crafty. The dining room table is covered in paints, crayons and half finished sketches of John Barrowman.
The lounge suite is swimming in a sea of different coloured wools, so much it would put that witty knitter Madame Nostradamus to shame.
And the kitchen. Let’s just say it will take a little while to clear up the paper mache, glue and tinsel.
What is all this for you may ask? Well, Trevor, Leeson and Tom have been delving into the wonderful world of fan creativity, in its many guises and forms.
Doctor Who fans certainly are a talented lot, and we have found a few that we wish to share with you today.
Discussed in this episode are the following gems of fandom imagination:
- Steve Ricks and his amazing David Tennant coat
- Doctor Who fan art
- Talking with my 12 year old self
- WhoMix
- Lady Soliloque
- Femme Docs
There is plenty more out there to be had, so treat yourself on a rainy afternoon to a feast of Doctor Who, fan-style.
We also have an interview with Paul Scoones, author of the Comic Strip Companion Volume 1, published by those book boffins at Telos Publishing. This book has started the long journey of chronicling the Doctor’s adventures in the comic strip form. We also give you a chance to win a copy of this fantastic book.
And if that wasn’t enough to keep you going tis episode, Ian and Michele complete their review of the Big Finish I, Davros series.
