The Girl Who Waited
The Doctor Who ShowRegular listeners will know that aside from our 'hot take' episodes whenever new Doctor Who emerges, our other episodes are hardly ever based on reviewing a single story. In that way, we're probably different to many, or even most, Doctor Who podcasts out there which make single story reviews their main focus.
We 'broke' this rule in September 2019 by randomly selecting The Keeper of Traken for a deep dive and we loved the experience so much, we decided to do it again sometime in the following year.
Conscious that we did a Classic Who episode last time, a few weeks back we ran a Twitter poll asking listeners what they'd like to hear us do a standalone podcast on: Amy's Choice, The Long Game, The Girl Who Waited, or The Idiot's Lantern.
136 votes were cast, with 35.3% asking for The Girl Who Waited.
So... here we are! But some things never change and before we get to the episode itself we also rattle through some listener reviews, Doctor Who news, and short topics.
And be sure to let us know what you thought of our opinion on the story, so we can read you out, next time.
Hope you enjoy the episode! Contact us anytime, hello@theDWshow.net

Extra! - More Unfortunate Episode Titles
Doctor Who: Verity! You may have been expecting a Gallifrey One wrap-up episode, and you'll get one, but not this week! The tail end of Gally was intense and emotional and busy and some of us needed a little space to process. Instead, you get something delightful and fun to tide you over. Hope you enjoy!
Remember when we played "Unfortunate Episode Titles" and Liz mocked poor Deb mercilessly? We sure do! That's why this week Liz takes over the podcast and runs Deb, Erika, and Tansy through her very own gauntlet of episode titles!
Who will win? Listen and find out!

I Don’t Want Nancy Reagan
Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastSo, we’ve all taken several hits of vraxoin, which means that we really enjoyed this week’s story, in spite of the sets, the script, most of the performances and the ham-fisted anti-drugs message. It’s Nightmare of Eden!
Buy the story!
Nightmare of Eden was released on DVD as recently as 2012. (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)
Notes and links
In 1983, First Lady Nancy Reagan was in the throes of her Just Say No campaign, in which she made numerous television appearances warning the American people about the dangers of drugs. Horrifically, she guested on an episode of Diff’rent Strokes in order to patronise Gary Coleman’s entire class.
Fans of the fabulous model work in this story, along with everyone else, will enjoy the Blakes 7 episode Gold. (It’s worth mentioning at this point that Blakes 7 is now available on YouTube in its entirety. So why are you wasting your time on this podcast, for God’s sake?)
Amii Stewart’s 1979 music video for her hit single Knock On Wood has nearly many psychedelic video effects as this story’s Episode 3 cliffhanger.
In 1980, Lalla Ward played Ophelia in the BBC Season of Shakespeare’s version of Hamlet. Hamlet himself was played by Derek Jacobi, Doctor Who’s very own Professor Yana. (We love Lalla, but she’s really terrible in this.)

We’re also on Facebook, and you can check out our website at flightthroughentirety.com. And please consider rating or reviewing us on iTunes, or we’ll get horribly out of it for some reason and crash a spaceliner through your car.
Bondfinger
Bondfinger has just released its Casino Royale (1967) commentary, but, to be honest, you’ll need to take a lot of vraxoin in order to get through that film. Still, we also have more sensible commentaries on You Only Live Twice (1967), Thunderball (1965), Goldfinger (1964), From Russia With Love (1963), and Dr. No (1962). You can keep up with the Bondfinger news on our website, as well as on Twitter and Facebook.

305: Big Finish, Open Up! (Small Worlds)
Trust Your DoctorThe year is 2099. Big Finish prowls the street looking for non-Doctor Who fans.
I had never even made any association between this and the really annoyingly catchy Disney song until right this second. And now that I’ve made that association I’m not going to be able to unmake it. Plus now you’ve probably got that song stuck in your head, and you know what? You’re welcome. It’s Small Worlds, written by PJ Hammond and aired on November 12, 2006.
Show-notes:
1:05: If you want to listen to us talk about Sapphire and Steel, The Prisoner, and other wonderful shows like Star Cops and Children of the Stones, check out our classic sci-fi podcast Inevitable: A Classic Sci-Fi Podcast.
16:26: The Museum of Hoaxes has a write up and images of the Cottingley Fairies photos.
19:44: Wow for some reason dozens of people have adapted Conan Doyle’s The Lost World. Apparently I was wrong about Hound of the Baskervilles being not a Sherlock story at first. 50% isn’t so bad.
35:00: Here’s the full Nightmare painting from 1781. According to etymonline, nightmare doesn’t come from the painting, but did enter the modern usage of “any bad dream” after the painting was made.
39:51: World War I was 1914 to 1918.
54:19: Here’s the full Stolen Child poem by W.B. Yeats.
1:09:54: If you want to listen to us talk about movie trilogies, check out our movie trilogy podcast, Triple Play: A Movie Trilogy PodcastAs promised here’s a Christian take on Torchwood. Spoiler: they didn’t like it. (Also spoiler warning for season 4.)
While we’re at it, here’s another Christian take on the show, this time from Be Thinking (warning: this one spoils the Children of Earth season).
Christian.org.uk also reported on how many Christians were offended by Torchwood and complained about it.

#165 - Eldrad Is a Jerk
Doctor Who: The Metebelis 2We say hello to season 14 and goodbye to Sarah Jane as we talk about The Masque of Mandragora and The Hand of Fear. Ben wishes there was a monster in Masque and David recalls being inspired to research the Cult of Demnos at the library. Despite our appreciation of Stephen Thorne, Ben wishes Eldrad remained portrayed by the otherworldly Judith Paris, or possible by Lis Sladen. David questions whether the Bristol Boys' story was strong enough to support the darker themes of the story. Opening music is "Basse danse La brosse, Tripla / Tourdion" performed by the Ulsamer Collegium. Closing music is "Daddy Wouldn't Buy Me a Bow Wow", composed by Joseph Tabrar, and sung by Helen Mirren and Peter Sellers from the ill-conceived movie: "The Fiendish Plot of Dr. Fu Manchu". This episode was recorded 19 July 2020.

#165 - Eldrad Is a Jerk
Doctor Who: The Metebelis 2We say hello to season 14 and goodbye to Sarah Jane as we talk about The Masque of Mandragora and The Hand of Fear. Fu Manchu".
