    Who's He? Podcast #211 I felt a little like a dying clown

    Who's He?

    Direct Podcast Download

    18:35 (GMT) - 26 Jul 2015

To kick off this weeks podcast, Phil and Paul play catch up with all the news they have missed over the last couple of weeks which means a recap on the announcement of the series 9 premiere date and the trailer! Sorry! But there is the news that series 10 has already been commissioned, some guest announcements for the Doctor Who Festival in November and some more Big Finish news!

But once the news is out of the way, they crack on with their review of the novelisation of The Power of The Daleks. This is a change for them both as this isn't strictly a Target book and they had no DVD to compare the book to! So sit back and listen to the pair of them discuss devious Daleks, characters with no redeeming qualities and a love triangle worthy of The Love Boat!

    Radio Free Skaro

    Direct Podcast Download

    18:00 (GMT) - 26 Jul 2015

Conventions and clips dominate the news, with events in Germany, Australia and of course goings on concerning the upcoming Long Island Who, but also a look back at the New Adventures era through the fine folk at Myth Makers and a very...old-fashioned look through newsreel footage at the wedding of Jon Pertwee. The Man Himself is also the subject of a recently unearthed (and Youtubed) documentary, not to mention the focus of much praise from current TARDIS resident Peter Capaldi, who praises Three in an interview with Christel Dee on the Doctor Who Fan Show. All mere prelude to the return of Fluid Links, where we answer your questions about the program, no matter how silly or sublime!

    17:00 (GMT) - 26 Jul 2015

00:00 The Who Wars Podcast Ident & Theme

00:48 The Front Page; Rob @WhoWars kicks off this episode with discussion of what we've produced in the past couple of weeks, such as Episode 36 featuring an interview with a Doctor from Doctor Who; the Rivers of London special covering an exciting new comic series based on novels written by Doctor Who alumni Ben Aaronovitch; unboxing the new, limited edition, Robert Harrop Cyberman figurine; and a great episode of Cloud City Council last weekend. Welcome to Who Wars #37.

08:13 INTERVIEW - SDCC - Kate @Kamiduu talks to long-term SDCC goer (and Star Wars and Doctor Who fan), Margaret Mays @magmays about her experiences at San Diego Comic Con 2015 and past conventions.

30:56 FEATURE - STAR WARS/THE MUPPETS - Neil and Johnny from the Drinking In The Park podcast discuss some long-held links between the Muppets and Star Wars.
(Drinking In The Park podcast available at www.neilandjohnny.com as well as The Droids Canada podcast and the Tangent Bound podcast network.)

45:14 FEATURE - CLONE WARS - Rob @WhoWars continues to watch the Clone Wars TV series in chronological order. Here, the chronology takes him to 1.2 Rising Malevolence; 1.3 Shadow of Malevolence; and 1.4 Destroy Malevolence. What does he think of them?

58:20 COMIC - STAR WARS - Darth Vader #7 (Marvel) by Andy @skaromedia and additional acting by Kate @Kamiduu

    1:05:13 COMIC - STAR WARS - Kanan #4 (Marvel) by Jon @nerdstitute

1:08:50 ADVERT - Lex @Lexerness channels her inner Amelia Pond to encourage you to join the Who Wars team.

1:09:12 BOOK REVIEW - DOCTOR WHO - Rob @WhoWars reviews the first 12th Doctor New Series Adventure (NSA), The Blood Cell. Have you read it? Why not email us at hello@whowars.net and tell us whether you agree with Rob's thoughts or not? We'd love to hear from you.

1:20:02 FEATURE - DOCTOR WHO/DALEKS - Jon @nerdstitute talks Robert @MinGoose through watching his first classic episode of Doctor Who, The Daleks. This is the first part in a wider, irregular series where Jon and Robert will look at every Dalek story to date.

1:33:29 - The Back Page; closing remarks from Rob @WhoWars, followed by an email from @Johnnerholler about the back page of Episode 36 where Rob discussed the potential over-saturation of Star Wars in the decade ahead. Following this, the editorial topic for this week is footage and trailers screened at San Diego Comic Con as "exclusives" and designed never to be seen again. What sort of marketing madness is this? In his usual style, Rob has his say. Want to comment back? Email the show at hello@whowars.net and tell us what you think.

The guards just hang out in space.

This week Kiyan and Dylan venture into what is supposedly one of the best classic who stories and then create what is supposedly our most recent episode. I’m not actually sure if it is, I mean, it will be until Episode 80 comes out. Anyway this week they watched The Ark in Space, which aired in January and February of 1975.

Terror of the Zygons was finally released on DVD in 2013. (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)

Terrance Dicks's novelisation, Doctor Who and the Loch Ness Monster, was re-released to celebrate the 50th anniversary, and so it's still actually in print. Hooray! (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)

    Links and notes

A picture of Nessie’s flipper was taken in 1972, and so Peter Scott called it Nessiteras rhombopteryx. Bless him.

Fans of staggering up the beach will enjoy the the Avengers episode The Town of No Return.

SEE! the Skarasen being milked on BBC America’s TARDIS Index File.

Yes it’s the big 50 for us and what we have a crackin’ show lined up. A couple of rants, some great news items and our review episode guaranteed to split opinion – Love and Monsters. Let’s do it Who fans!

    A big thank you

We’ve reached episode 50! Adam and I would like to say a HUGE thank you for your continued support and listening over the last year and a bit, it’s been an absolute joy to record this show and we’re always grateful for your thoughts. We always love reading out your views on our review episode each week and you guys never disappoint. Here’s to another 50 episodes!

    The News

The 6th Doctor Colin Baker’s new project has just been fully funded! Publicly funded movie Last Man on Earth is currently in rehearsal in Manchester with things moving nicely into production, thanks to your pledges. We’ll be on the look out for this upon release. You can find out more here.

Tucked away in the BBC Annual Review is a tiny nugget of important information – Doctor Who’s series 10 has now been confirmed. Assuming that at this stage in the game and DW’s global success episode 10 was a sure thing, the BEEB didn’t shout about it. Still at least we know it’ll be on our screens for another year at least.

Capaldi hints at a Caecilius return? We heard a while ago that in series 9 they would explain the reason for the Doctor being seen previously in The Fires of Pompeii. Well know Capaldi has confirmed this along with Moffat saying that it will be subtly referenced.

Some lucky folks will be seeing the series 9 opener The Magician’s Apprentice early as a special advanced screening is taking place on August 27th at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. No spoilers please!

    “Love and Monsters” Review

Often viewed as one of the weakest episode’s in modern Who we’re getting stuck into this “Doctor-Lite” story to get to the bottom of the negative views plus also giving our own views and the oh-so important score. It’s gonna be a rough ride so batten down the hatches!

    This week’s trivia question

Last episode we asked you – When the Doctor first met Amy where did he say the swimming pool was? The answer is the Library.

This week’s question is – What was the 100th story to be broadcast? Give us your answer in the comments below or post it on Twitter or Facebook. Good luck!

Thanks for flying in the Tardis with us again and remember next week it’s our commentary of School Reunion, we’ll be back with episode 51 the week after. Have a great week and until then – Allons-y!
