#112 - Macrobes and the Land of Confusion
Doctor Who: The Metebelis 2It's a Metebelis Twofer this week! First up, Ben and David review the new animation of The Macra Terror and discuss what it means now that Macra exist. The Two the release suitable for ming-mongs of all tastes. The second half is a podcast that was going to be the ol' Metebelis look at The Greatest Show in the Galaxy, which would have been part of our Ace retrospective, but David derailed Ben from the get-go and instead they spent their time talking about Brexit and the future of Doctor Who. So, instead of putting out the podcast with not much Doctor Who talk on it, we're adding it as a bonus. Listen to it or give it a skip -- totally up to you! Opening and closing/intermission music is by Brian Hodgson from the Macra soundtrack. Brexit music is from the 1986 single from Genesis, "Land of Confusion."

Episode 246: Do Androids Dream of Electric Peeps?
Trust Your DoctorI’m pretty sure electric peeps would suck even worse than normal peeps.
You know, we kind of have experience with dealing with something we like to pretend doesn’t exist. It’s called Trust Your Doctor, Episode 1. We even rerecorded it like 5 years later, and then literally replaced it in the podcast feed so no one would see the original version. Kind of like our version of the War Doctor. Except you can still totally find episode 1. As if I’d tell you where though. It’s Name of the Doctor, written by Steven Moffat and aired on May 18, 2013.
Show-notes:
18:20 According to Paul’s Unofficial Letterbox Pages, “Most houses in Britain have a letter box in the front door, usually a simple slot with a flap over it, through which the post is delivered each morning.” No mention of personal mailboxes outside people’s houses like you see in the states.
21:25 And thus the essence of all crime is undivulged.
20:19 I think the only thing I’ve linked to more than this River Song timeline is the asteroid/meteor/meteorite differences table thing from nasa.
25:08 Arrival is a movie about alien linguistics.
33:49 Some of the best J.K. Rowling tweets.
55:02 Check out our Blake’s 7 podcast, Zenith.

Tropes, for Want of a Better Word
Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastThis week, we’re mostly hiding behind the curtain and under the bed, watching French aristocrats getting attacked by clockwork robots. Which is fun, but not quite in the way you might expect. Also, we’re joined by friend-of-the-podcast Simon Moore, the culmination of a nearly five-year masterplan to trick him into saying the word trope. It’s The Girl in the Fireplace.
Notes and links
You can find our anxious fanboy discussion about the Doctor and Rose’s kiss in The Parting of the Ways in Flight Through Entirety Episode 144, Fostering Tagging.
James has the very good taste to mention Matthew Waterhouse’s autobiography, Blue Box Boy, which is intelligent, moving and quite revealing. Worth a read.
The slightly upsetting scene where the Doctor meets a very young Clara was the prequel episode to The Bells of Saint John. You can watch it here.
This episode’s podcast commentary with Steven Moffat and Noel Clarke can be found on the BBC website, but it’s only available if you’re in the UK, you have Flash installed and you’re signed in at the BBC website. I don’t know, maybe if I rummage around for a bit, I might find a copy lying around somewhere.

TDP 835: Worlds of #DoctorWho The Eighth of March - Volume 1 from @BigFinish
Tin Dog Podcast@TinDogPodcast reviews @Bigfinish This title was released in March 2019. It will be exclusively available to buy from the Big Finish website until May 31st 2019, and on general sale after this date. Scattered through all of space and time, there are many women whose paths have crossed that of the Doctor. Some were once fellow TARDIS travellers, some staunch allies defending the Earth, and one was the Doctor’s wife… From Victorian London, to an intergalactic convention, from the offices of UNIT, to an impossible university library – on the 8th of March, four very different adventures will unfold. 1. Emancipation by Lisa McMullin When River Song crashes a Galactic Heritage convention, posing as the wrong Time Lord, Leela is sent by Gallifrey to investigate. But before the canapés are cold and the champagne becomes warm, they find themselves embroiled in a royal kidnapping. 2. The Big Blue Book by Lizzie Hopley With the Doctor AWOL, Benny and Ace are left to their own devices, going native in a Liverpool university. Benny accepts an invitation she really shouldn’t, and Ace meets a very strange collector. An alien library is about to gain a big, blue book… but where’s the TARDIS? 3. Inside Every Warrior by Gemma Langford The Great Detective, Madame Vastra, aided by her resourceful spouse, Jenny Flint, and loyal valet, Strax, is looking into a series of mysterious break-ins. An eccentric scientist and his put-upon assistant are the latest victims. Evidence mounts, with animal footprints and a trail of destruction. 4. Narcissus by Sarah Grochala When one of their own goes missing, Kate Stewart and the two Osgoods decide to investigate. Narcissus is interested only in the most beautiful people, but as the UNIT operatives are about to discover, its true purpose is something far from desirable.

TDP 834: 25. Torchwood: Night of the Fendahl from @BigFinish
Tin Dog Podcast@Tindogpodcast reviews @BigFinish This title was released in March 2019. It will be exclusively available to buy from the Big Finish website until May 31st 2019, and on general sale after this date. Torchwood vs Monsters! Marco makes films. You wouldn’t like them. The lighting’s shoddy, the sets are cheap and the sound’s appalling. But there’s an audience for them. Because they’re films in which bad things happen to women. Marco’s latest venture is based on real events. Events which took place in Fetch Priory many years ago. It’s an anthology piece, and Marco needs one final victim. But the last victim is not who anyone is expecting. Death has returned to Fetch Priory. And Death is no-one’s victim. Torchwood contains adult material and may not be suitable for younger listeners
