After taking a month to observe Doctor Who's 60th anniversary with a wide range of guest interviews, we're back -- like RTD back with David Tennant and Catherine Tate to ring in the TV show's newest era -- to look at the Target novelizations, picking up with the July 1985 paperback release of The Mind of Evil.

Jim Sangster (@Monster_Maker), who brings so much behind-the-scenes value to this show, joins me on the air to discuss Mind. And some history facts about The Tyburn Tree.

According to Todd, the old woman in the barn is either Leela or Aunt Adah from the Star Trek: Voyager pilot episode Caretaker — a hologram created by a vast pan-dimensional being to make the crew of Voyager feel at home by offering them lemonade, sugar cookies and corn.

Magic or magical realism is a genre closely associated with Latin America, and particularly the writers Gabriel García Márquez and Jorge Luis Borges, although the genre has influenced other writers like China Miéville (who got a mention in the shownotes a couple of weeks ago). Here’s an article about the genre published by Vox in 2014, just after Márquez’s death.

We speculate about awards which Heaven Sent might have won. It was nominated in 2016 for the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation (Short Form), but it lost to the Jessica Jones episode AKA Smile. (The Saturn Awards don’t include an award for an individual television episode.)

Just over a week ago on 23rd November 2023, Doctor Who's 60th anniversary, the highlight on BBC TV was The Daleks in Colour - a 75 minute reimagining of the first Dalek story specially colourised to help bring the story to life for a new generation. And less than a week later I had the good fortune to chat with 3 of the team responsible for making it - Benjamin Cook, the Editor, Rich Tipple, Lead Colourisation Artist and Timothy K Brown, Colourisation Artist.

It's a fun chat that goes into storytelling, why some of the creative choices were made, some of the difficulties involved and how they were overcome and what it's like to have your name in the same set of credits as William Hartnell.
