The Pyramid at the End of the World

In this episode Phil and Paul tackle The Pyramid at the End of the World, the latest in this series of Doctor Who. Well, it had to end didn't it? Not the world, the run of outstanding episodes! Unfortunately neither Paul nor Phil can find many niceties to say regarding this story featuring the most inept scientific laboratory committed to TV and an endless list of coincidences that neither of them find believable. And Phil really has it in for anyone wearing a beret badly.

And in the news, Doctor Who will reach at least series 15 and will be shown in China, the BBC Store is to close, Rachel Talalay is to direct the Christmas Special and there is a truncated Omega's Stats Corner.

THIN ICE: Moscow 1967. The Doctor and Ace have arrived behind the Iron Curtain, and the Soviet Union is seeking a new weapon that will give it mastery in the Cold War. What is the secret of the Martian relics? As the legendary War Lord Sezhyr returns to life, the Doctor is faced with some of his oldest and deadliest enemies. The fate of Earth - and the future of Ace - are now intertwined...

CRIME OF THE CENTURY: The year is 1989. In London, safe cracker Raine Creevy breaks into a house - and finds more than the family jewels. In the Middle East, the kingdom of Sayf Udeen is being terrorised by Soviet invaders and alien monsters. And on the Scottish border, a highly guarded facility contains an advanced alien weapon. These are all part of the Doctor's masterplan. But masterplans can go awry...

ANIMAL: Margrave University in 2001, and Raine Creevy is enjoying her first trip into the future. For the Doctor, there are mysteries to solve: what are the alien creatures imprisoned in the science labs? And what are the true motives of the student Scobie and his followers? With enemies on all sides, the Doctor teams up with his old friend Brigadier Bambera and the forces of UNIT in a battle for the future of the whole world.

She seems a little unsure of herself. In fact, some might almost think she was new to the job. Its medical officer is called simply 'The Doctor', and he's perhaps not all he seems either. When mysterious ships target the Vancouver, Ace and the Doctor are pushed to the limit. Meanwhile, there's something nasty in the grain containers. And it's not very happy...

ANIMAL: Margrave University in 2001, and Raine Creevy is enjoying her first trip into the future. For the Doctor, there are mysteries to solve: what are the alien creatures imprisoned in the science labs? And what are the true motives of the student Scobie and his followers? With enemies on all sides, the Doctor teams up with his old friend Brigadier Bambera and the forces of UNIT in a battle for the future of the whole world.

EARTH AID: Welcome aboard the space vessel Vancouver. Its mission: to guard a vast shipment of grain from Earth to the planet Safenesthome. Its Captain is called Ace. She seems a little unsure of herself. In fact, some might almost think she was new to the job. Its medical officer is called simply 'The Doctor', and he's perhaps not all he seems either. When mysterious ships target the Vancouver, Ace and the Doctor are pushed to the limit. Meanwhile, there's something nasty in the grain containers. And it's not very happy...

We've reached the middle portion of the Trilogy of the Monks with "The Pyramid at the End of the World", and who better to lend a hand ruminating on tractor beams, world peace, pandemics and panic than Wife in Space impresario Neil Perryman? Neil joins the Two Who Rule (in the form of Warren and Steven) to hash out what in the actual hell is going on with these mysterious robed fellows, before getting to the most important news of the week...Doctor Who branded skin care products. An 'ancient' pyramid appears overnight. Every clock in the world begins counting down to the Earth's destruction. Three opposing armies lie ready to annihilate each other. Following our April episode where Dave ran proceedings without Rob (to change things up while the weekly S10 review episodes are going out), this time Rob runs the whole shebang without Dave.

One last crime drama mystery for us to start this last story of this season. A romp in Chelsea, dancing in bars, the poshest man in the world, this story draws on the '60s very well.

An edge of the seat ride for viewers this week as the Doctor, Bill and Nardole visit The Pyramid at The End of The World. Possibly the most epic feeling episode for a few years and certainly an improvement on last week's mystery obsessed plot line. My usual first thoughts review and plenty of comments from the twitterverse.
