Radio Free Skaro
Description:
Radio Free Skaro is possibly the most popular, most prolific and charmingly irreverent (but never irrelevant) Doctor Who podcast around. Since August 2006, hosts Warren (in Vancouver, BC) and Steven (in Edmonton, AB) have provided listeners with their brand of amusing Doctor Who praise and punishment. A year later, Chris (in Amherst, NS) was added to the team, and The Three Who Rule were born. Recommended by Doctor Who Magazine, Radio Free Skaro provides an entertaining and diverting listen for the diehard or casual Doctor Who fan. New episodes usually appear on Sundays, following a loose magazine format of the three hosts discussing the news and events of the past week in the worlds of Doctor Who, Torchwood, and the Sarah Jane Adventures. They have also recorded special commentary podcasts for classic series and new series episodes of Doctor Who along with interviews of some of the brightest of the Doctor Who luminaries. Radio Free Skaro is also the official podcast of Gallifrey One, the world's largest and longest-running annual Doctor Who convention.

As The Year With No Doctor Who drags on, new cracks in spacetime emerge, amongst them a back-and-forth war between the BBC and its enemies in government and without, and the surprising news that Chris Chibnall might adopt the (predominantly) American model of a writer's room for his tenure as showrunner for Doctor Who. Intriguing! And while thinking about the future, why not reflect on the past? Specifically, ponder upon the legacy of the twentieth anniversary of the TV Movie, with a panel recorded at LI Who featuring Paul McGann, Daphne Ashbrook, Matthew Jacobs, and Gary Russell! And as if that isn't enough, we have an interview with Yee Jee Tso about "Time and Spaces," his photo book contrasting the Vancouver shooting locations of the movie in 1996 and today!

It certainly appears that way, and the Three Who Rule range from perturbed to sanguine at this development, tempered with speculation on a possible BBC streaming service. Plus there's news of dolls, coloring books, poorly considered song choices by future showrunners, and a full length documentary by Steven from the heart of Big Finish's HQ in deepest London. What mysteries do these auditory magicians hold in their secret lair! Listen...and learn!

The Doctor Who world was rocked this week by the news that Steven Moffat will be stepping down as showrunner, to be replaced by Chris Chibnall, showrunner of Broadchurch and writer of Torchwood, Life on Mars and yes, Doctor Who fame. What did the Three Who Rule think of this seismic shift, not to mention the fact that there won't be any new Who until Christmas of this year? More to the point, what are their views on digitizing Doctor Who pinball? Never let it be said we don't focus on the important issues here at RFS. Just in case baseless speculation isn't your thing, we also have an interview with Katy Manning, recorded at LI Who and presented here for your listening pleasure.
