Though the Hugos were...dogged with controversy, in the eye of the storm all was calm and in fact Steven and Warren (along with Verity's own Erika Ensign) were pleased to attend their first Worldcon, an international celebration of science fiction and fantasy that pre-dates (and was interrupted by) World War II! Planet of the Ood. That's what's going on here. We can't believe we haven't reviewed this since it first aired. So, we're remedying that this episode. Ooooood. Just love saying it. Also, sorry we forgot to tell you about it last time in our Next Time segment that we forgot to do. Ooooooops. So if you haven't seen it yet, don't listen to this show until you have. There's tons of spoilers, we don't watch what we say. Course, we seem to have a problem with that in general.

We also have a bit of news. And a bit of rabbit chasing.

And then like magic, it works! Guaranteed, every time.

This week Kiyan and Dylan return to their regularly scheduled host set-up with just the two of them attempting to explain a serial once again. This week the serial at hand is Terror of the Zygons, which was written by Robert Banks Stewart and aired in August and September of 1975. Harry Sullivan leaves in this episode, so there’s a retrospective at the end of the episode.

This was the base Dylan was referring to. Apparently it appeared in The Spy Who Loved Me, and not the one with the lotus (You Only Live Twice). The Bond Films all kind of blend together at some point.

This week, we’re off to the planet Karn for wine, cheese and cyanide with Dr Mehendri Solon and his pet brain-in-a-jar Morbius. And Sarah Jane Smith has never had so much fun!

    Buy the story!

The Brain of Morbius was released on DVD in 2008. (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)

As usual, the first thing we do with a Hinchcliffe story is to work out which classic horror films it’s, er, paying homage to. This time, it’s the films of James Whale — Frankenstein (1931) and Bride of Frankenstein (1935). James Whale’s own story is told in Gods and Monsters (1998), where he is played by Doctor Who’s very own Sir Ian McKellen. (He did a voiceover in The Snowmen. That totally counts.)

Pieter Bruegel painted three pictures of the Tower of Babel, all of which look very much like Solon’s castle.

Fans of the hilarious way Nathan continually mixes up the names of Doctor Who stories will enjoy how, in his incisive analysis of this season’s terrible flaws, he manages to refer to The Android Invasion as Invasion of the Dinosaurs. And Brendan will try and muscle in on the action later on by calling The Seeds of Doom The Seeds of Death. Aren’t we silly?

For once, Elizabeth Sandifer is not actually responsible for the rule Nathan quotes about canon: it’s part of this brilliant anti-canon rant on the sadly defunct Teatime Brutality blog.

James Whale's own story is told in Gods and Monsters (1998), where he is played by Doctor Who's very own Sir Ian McKellen. (He did a voiceover in The Snowmen. That totally counts.)

Pieter Bruegel painted three pictures of the Tower of Babel, all of which look very much like Solon's castle.

Fans of the hilarious way Nathan continually mixes up the names of Doctor Who stories will enjoy how, in his incisive analysis of this season's terrible flaws, he manages to refer to The Android Invasion as Invasion of the Dinosaurs. And Brendan will try and muscle in on the action later on by calling The Seeds of Doom The Seeds of Death. Aren't we silly?

For once, Elizabeth Sandifer is not actually responsible for the rule Nathan quotes about canon: it's part of this brilliant anti-canon rant on the sadly defunct Teatime Brutality blog.

00:00 The Who Wars Podcast Theme

00:48 The Front Page; Rob @WhoWars kicks off this episode with discussion of his week, his MX-5 roadster and the weather in Sydney; the leak of a Luke Skywalker image from Episode VII and the (over) reaction to it as he sees it; Warlord Games acquires the licence to make a Doctor Who miniatures game; a shocking discovery is made about which Doctor Rob is most like; and what's coming up in this episode, including a new segment called, "Doctor Noob".
10:38 FEATURE - DOCTOR WHO - Kate @Kamiduu begins a new segment called "Doctor Noob" where a non-Doctor Who fan (or perhaps a very casual one), is invited to watch an episode selected by Kate, then talk about it on the show. This episode Kate speaks to Catrina Dennis @ohcatrina who is a Senior Editor at @moviepilotnews, Bartender at @UnderMosEisley and a Podcaster at @WomanUpPodcast and @FACPOV. What will this Star Wars fan think of Who?

22:24 INTERVIEW - DOCTOR WHO - Andy @skaromedia talks to Russ Leach @Kre8uk about sequential art, illustration & design. Russ is currently working for Panini on Doctor Who Adventures Magazine, which comprises most of the chat.

54:04 COMIC - DOCTOR WHO - Four Doctors #1 (Titan) by Rob @WhoWars and Lex @Lexerness

1:23:55 COMIC - DOCTOR WHO - Four Doctors #2 (Titan) by Rob @WhoWars and Kate @Kamiduu

2:46:14 FEATURE - STAR WARS - Kate @Kamiduu reports on D23 2015 and the amount of Star Wars news released at the event, including: no new trailer but a new poster by Drew Struzan; Rogue One cast and first image; Star Wars theme parks; gaming news with the Darth Vader themed PS4 and the Disney Infinities set. Kate then asks Twitter and the Who Wars team what sort of rides they'd like to see at the new Star Wars feature at Disneyland. Who Wars team responses by Rob @WhoWars Lex @Lexerness and Andy @skaromedia

2:59:30 FEATURE - CLONE WARS - Rob @WhoWars continues to watch the Clone Wars TV series in chronological order. Here, the chronology takes him to 1.6 "Downfall of a Droid" and 1.7 "Duel of the Droids" Have you seen these episodes? Tell us what you thought of them: hello@whowars.net

3:07:57 - The Back Page; closing remarks from Rob @WhoWars, followed by some iTunes feedback and listener email. There's no major topic discussed at the end of this episode, however, Rob does go back to some themes touched upon in the opening of the show, and wonders if Star Wars fans are getting a little crazy as the countdown to The Force Awakens begins to intensify. Rob also acknowledges the clanger he made in the Four Doctors #1 review.

Man it's been a long time! To be fair it's hard to do a podcast when a show is only on for 12 or 13 episodes a year, plus we've all had pretty busy summers.  Anyway, in this show we discuss some Doctor Who news, talk about our hopes for the series and compare Capaldi's regeneration to Colin Bakers.  So thanks for sticking with us and enjoy!

There is a grumpiness in the affairs of men, which taken at the flood, leads on to podcasting.

It had to happen one day. By sheer coincidence, life and work had been rough on all three members of the Four Faces of Delusion this week, brewing a cocktail which brought together Doc, Hayden and Matt in equally grumpy moods to record this podcast.

We start with Matt’s report on his recent visit to the “Day of the Doctors 2” event where he actually got offered a jelly baby by the great man himself, witnessed Sylvester McCoy getting his mojo back, heard a story which forever trumps Matthew Waterhouse’s anecdote of finding out that he’d been written out, and Matt splashes the cash in the dealers’ room. Then Doc tells of the parcel of goodies he received which left him thoroughly mystified for a good five minutes and Hayden whores himself out on eBay to part-fund a trip to the USA.

We look at the rumours of an incomplete season in 2016 and reveal the identity of the actress destined to play the Thirteenth Doctor.

In the second half of the show, we give full rein to our grumpiness by building on last time’s “Guilty Treasures” – but this time it’s Guilty Hates. Luckily, the grumpiness of each podcaster’s choice provokes passionate defences by the other two. You haven’t heard this much passion on Diddly Dum since the week Doc did his 20 minute rant about fan forums.

Along the way, we preview the future Big Finish collections – “The Duggan Chronicles” and “The Neeva Chronicles”.

It’s a spooky shinanagans this week with our review of Hide but first we have our Gallifreyan duty to bring you the latest news. Shall we?

    The News

Want to create your own Doctor Who fan project? The BBC have now released Mission Dalek, a content for you lot to make your own Who creation. Video, animation, whatever you want. We’re looking forward to seeing some great stuff with this one.

As we reported last week with the US getting a cinema 3D showing of series 8’s two-part finale, some other counties are now following suit. You lucky folk in Denmark and Russia are now able to catch it too, also on the 15th and 16th of September.

Could we be getting more back links to previous series’ of Who? A recent location shoot has been confirmed at Eddie’s Diner in Cardiff, conveniently the same location used in The Impossible Astronaut. Hmmmm.

Show runner Steven Moffat has been teasing some more series 9 information in the latest edition of Doctor Who Magazine but this time very cryptic, using only a few words this time; "Cards", "Hybrid", "Cobbles", "Solo", "Dead". What can it all mean?

A new book series Doctor Who: The Complete History is coming next month. This impressive series of books goes behind the scenes of popular episodes from each Doctor’s era with a new book out each fortnight. If you want to find out more about the behind-the-scenes of Who, this could be for you.

    “Hide” Review

Can Who do a good old fashioned ghost story? What turns out to be be a case of mistaken identity The Doctor and Clara must solve the case to help a stranded person in a pocket dimension. Does it put the hairs up on the back of our neck or does it leave us cold?

    This week’s trivia question

Last episode we asked you – By what names do the Doctor and his companions call themselves in the Gunfighters? The answer is – Dr Calligari, Steven Regret and Dodo Dupont.

This week’s question is – Which publication does Sarah Jane Smith work for? Give us your answer in the comments below or post it on Twitter or Facebook. Good luck!

Thank you for joining us this week. Remember to subscribe in iTunes so you don’t miss an episode. Next week we’re reviewing Peter Davison’s Resurrection of the Daleks. Until then have a great week and – Allons-y!
