Episode 47: Tenth Doctor Boxing Match
Stories From The Vortex: A Doctor Who Audio Adventures Podcast
This episodes finds Matthew Kresal, Mary Lang and Robert Haynes putting perhaps the most hotly anticipated Big Finish release since 2013 under the scope: The Tenth Doctor Adventures Volume One (consisting of Technophobia, Team Reaver and Death And The Queen). Did it live up to the hype though? In discussing that, perhaps the most contentious debate yet on Stories From The Vortex takes place taking in the Tenth Doctor era on TV, listener expectations and more.

TDP 590: 4th Doctor Adventures - The Trouble With Drax
Tin Dog Podcastreview from @TinDogPodcast Altrazar. The temporal Atlantis, a place lost to time. Believed by many to be a myth, it has long been the perfect location for the rich and powerful to hide away their most dangerous secrets. Until now. Because the somewhat crooked, not exactly honest, wheeler-dealer cockney Time Lord known as Drax has found a map that leads to its location. And, at the behest of a manipulative businessman, he's going to use it. When the TARDIS is dragged out of the space-time vortex, its crew aren't best pleased to see the Doctor's old school friend, even less when he pressgangs them into joining a raid on the most secure safe-house in history. However with Romana and K9 held hostage, the Doctor has little choice but to agree. With Drax in tow, he heads for the planet. Which is where the trouble starts. Written By: John Dorney Directed By: Nicholas Briggs Cast Tom Baker (The Doctor), Lalla Ward (Romana), John Leeson (K9/Cabot), Ray Brooks (Drax), John Challis (Rosser), Hugh Fraser (Charles Kirkland/Shopkeeper), Jane Slavin (Shopkeeper 2), Miranda Raison (Inspector Fleur McCormick), John Banks (Grunthar/Street-Cleaner)

Episode 123: A Cross Between a Silurian and Shrek
Trust Your DoctorIt’s all ogre the news. Terileptals take London.
This week Kiyan and Dylan visit London. Or have they already done that? Or will they still do that? Is “The Visitation” past tense? Well. Anyway, it’s the Visitation, written by Eric Saward and aired in February of 1982.
Show-notes:
5:50 Here’s this handy chart that explains the difference between asteroids, comets, meteors, meteoroids, and meteorites. Again. For like the third time now.
7:08 You probably already know the scene, but why not watch it again? Do it, or I’ll bite your legs off.
9:23She still did go out and kill some people though, like those poor Morphos.
11:41 Undertale is a video game.
22:13 Oh god, there’s sand everywhere.
37:11 Apparently there’s a Doctor Who locations guide, so uh… feel free to take a look at the locations and studios they used for this serial I guess. They have complete listings for the classic show and the new show. How… exciting.

Episode 78: I've Walked Between That Cow
Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastThe world will be destroyed in four days, apparently, and to prepare for this, Brendan is wearing a stylish green velour suit, Richard has gathered his hair in a delightful side ponytail, and Nathan has just really let himself go. It's Four to Doomsday.
Buy the story!
Four to Doomsday was released on DVD in 2008 in the UK and Australia, and in 2009 in the US. (Amazon US) (Amazon UK).
Notes and links
Fans of Philip Locke, who plays Bigon in this story, will enjoy his performances in three episodes of The Avengers: From Venus with Love, Mandrake and The Frighteners, which also featured Stratford Johns, who plays Monarch in this story. Horrifyingly, Philip Locke also plays creepy sexless henchmen Vargas in Thunderball.
Fans of bisected farm animals will enjoy Damien Hirst's 1993 artwork Mother and Child.
Much like the Urbankans, cane toads were introduced into Australia to control the grey-backed cane beetle. As usual, this didn't go well.
This YouTube video includes every utterance of the words "some kind of", "some sort of" or "some type of" in Star Trek: Voyager. There are 393, for God's sake.
Monarch weirdly anticipates Baron Silas Greenback from Danger Mouse.
Annie Lambert, this story's Minister of Enlightenment, plays Helen McKay in The New Avengers episode Three-Handed Game.

Doctor Who in 10 Seconds

I’ve Walked Between That Cow
Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastThe world will be destroyed in four days, apparently, and to prepare for this, Brendan is wearing a stylish green velour suit, Richard has gathered his hair in a delightful side ponytail, and Nathan has just really let himself go. It’s Four to Doomsday.
Fans of bisected farm animals will enjoy Damien Hirst’s 1993 artwork Mother and Child.
Much like the Urbankans, cane toads were introduced into Australia to control the grey-backed cane beetle. As usual, this didn’t go well.
This YouTube video includes every utterance of the words “some kind of”, “some sort of” or “some type of” in Star Trek: Voyager. There are 393, for God’s sake.
Monarch weirdly anticipates Baron Silas Greenback from Danger Mouse.
Annie Lambert, this story’s Minister of Enlightenment, plays Helen McKay in The New Avengers episode Three-Handed Game.

Doctor Who in 10 Seconds
We’re tremendously proud of Brendan’s latest video project, Doctor Who in 10 seconds, in which he flies through entire seasons of Doctor Who, hilariously summarising each story in no more than 10 seconds. Enjoy the spectacle by checking out the playlist on YouTube.
