Benefit for Janet Fielding to be held in January

We here at Sound on Sight were greatly saddened after the recent announcement that actress Janet Fielding has been diagnosed with cancer. Our thoughts go out to her friends and family during this difficult time. Perhaps best know for her work on Doctor Who portraying companion Tegan Jovanka between 1981-1984 , Fielding was also involved in various charities including Project Motorhouse a community outreach program which is seeking to convert a derelict building in Thanet into a mixed-use public venue.

The reaction to Fielding's illness has been swift and inspiring. An impressive roaster of Whovians have joined together to hold a benefit concert in her name on behalf of project Motorhouse. Already no less than Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, David Tennant, Paul Mcgann, and Peter Davison have pledged their time and energy for this worthy cause. Although the event was almost immediately sold out, we Whovians have an opportunity to help out a fellow Companion and raise money for a good cause to boot. For those so willing and able you can contact Project Motorhouse or the UK's leading Cancer research charity Cancer Research UK.

Join Derek Gladu, Eric Mendoza, Lindsay Wood, and Beverly Brown as we go back to where it all started again in our review of 2005's "Rose". For those of you wanting to hear a little more gushing about Mr. Ecckleston, you should check out Sound on Sight's very first Doctor Who podcast when Derek and Eric discuss "The Empty Child" and the "Doctor Dances".

While anxiously awaiting the return of the Doctor in 2011's Doctor Who Christmas Special "The Doctor, The Widow, and the Wardrobe", the gang here Sound on Sight's Doctor Who Podcast have decided to give this whole yuletide joy thing a try this week by revisiting all the Christmas Specials since the venerable show was re-launched in 2005. Join Eric Mendoza, Linsay Wood, Beverly Brown and Derek Gladu as we look back at the David Tenant era of Who with "The Christmas Invasion" and "The Runaway Bride".

Celebrate the Who-lydays with A “Sonic Screwdriver” .

For fans wanting to whoop it up Who Style over the holidays, our gang of four highly recommend "The Sonic Screw Driver" invented by Liz Mulhern of Omaha Nebraska, named after Doctor's favorite get-out-of -trouble-in-a-jiffy gadget. Inspired, but relatively simple to create, the recipe is a twist on the traditional screwdriver (Vodka and orange) but uses Vanilla flavoured Vodka, Blue Curacao, and clear lemon/lime soda ( such as 7up or Sprite) in place of orange juice. The end result is citrus flavored vodka beverage that is sweet, bubbly, with a decidedly sci-fi blueish hue that is the perfect “companion” drink for an adventure with our favorite Timelord.

    For one serving

    1 1/2 oz vanilla vodka
1 1/2 oz Blue Curacao liqueur
6 oz lemon-lime soda (Sprite or 7up, essentially)

Half-fill a clear 12 oz. glass with ice. Pour 1.5 oz Vanilla Vodka, 1.5 oz Blue Curacao, and 6 oz. clear lemon/lime soda over the ice. Stir lightly.
Happy Holidays Whovians and a Merry New Year!

Every year, the “bottle episode” of Doctor Who is approached with a mixture of both anticipation and dread by Whovians. For those not in the know, a “bottle episode” is an industry term for a “scaled back production” (read “cheap”) that usually appears later on in a series’ after all the money has already been spent, usually on the series finale. Despite such budget constraints, the spirit of creativity in the face of adversity has lead to a surprising number of innovative and ingenious gems over the years, such as fan favorites like “Midnight” and “Blink”. It has also given us “Love and Monsters”, which was pants. Where does Series Six’s “bottle episode” fit on this spectrum? Join Eric Mendoza Lindsay Wood, Beverly Brown and Derek Gladu as we review "The Girl Who Waited".
