Episode 43 - J.R Southall makes a dramatic return appearance hanging from the bottom of a Police Box carried by helicopter to help us close out our 'terrible two's celebrations. Once again, we venture into the minefield that is known as Death in Heaven and hopefully emerge unscathed. We then look at the topic of Doctor Who biopics - which period of the show would we like to see dramatized? and what Target Book's novelists would we like to see adapt Nu Who stories into prose. Rob and J.R also discuss their publishing work and their approaches to it. We then venture back into the minefield, this time stark naked to dare ask the question that has stumped philosophers for the last 2000 years - who is the better writer - Steven Moffatt or Aaron Sorkin?

  • 42 to Doomsday - The Fanzine Menace

    12 July 2015 (7:02am GMT)
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 54 minutes and 31 seconds

    Direct Podcast Download

Episode 39 - Before podcasts, before cosplay, before the discovery of time travel, there was...NOTHING! Well, not entirely. In ye olden days, when fans went to meetings riding on the backs of pterodactyls there was...the (PAPER) FANZINE! Within those hallowed and now yellowed pages, fans would gather together in a papery, non-digital environment to express their ideas, love (and hate - some things will never change!) about the show. One of the very best of these was none other than TSV, the august fanzine from across the ditch in New Zealand. Mark and Rob chat with TSV editor Paul Scoones. In between bouts of inhaling duplicator fumes, we reminisce about producing fanzines before and after desktop publishing era. We examine how some contributors ascended to the realm of the professional novelist and put the internet in the dock for once again killing something that is fine and previous - damn its eyes! Plus we also touch on Doctor Who comics and Paul's definitive history of them in his book and his involvement in the recovery of The Lion and his work on the DVD Production notes. Paul Scoones's website: Features a blog and additional pages with details about the Comic Strip Companion and the DVD production information text. www.paulscoones.com TSV / New Zealand Doctor Who Fan Club: Includes Archive section featuring material from many past issues of TSV, and the fan novelisations. The discussion forum is still active. www.doctorwho.org.nz Retrospace Sci-Fi Collectables: Auckland-based shop (with shipping worldwide) owned and managed by Paul and his wife Rochelle. www.retrospace.co.nz The Comic Strip Companion 1964-1979: Paul's book about early Doctor Who comics, available from Telos Publishing www.telos.co.uk/product/the-comic-strip-companion-1964-1979/

Happy New Year (eve) everyone and to help you bring in the new year in style we release our second minisode / cutaway! The 28th February 1985 saw the first attempt at the cancellation / postponement/ hiatus / whatever of the classic series starring the then Doctor, Colin Baker. To protest (at this let's be honest ludicrous move) in March of that same year Ian Levine harnessed the vocal talents of many a Z list celebrity to 'sing' for the series return to the small screen in a musical opus called Doctor in Distress. To celebrate the upcoming 30th anniversary of this particular single, Rob and Mark again follow the podcasting herd and proudly release their first DVD commentary to accompany the music video for this fine recording. And just like U2's middling recent album we are giving it away free! So get your New Years Eve party rolling in style, for as a special bonus we include the instrumental version of this classic for everyone to sing along! Follow along with us via http://goo.gl/EpzkVK 42 to Doomsday will return in 2015!

Episode 28 So This is Christmas - In our final 'regular' episode for 2014 we look at the many different Christmas episodes served up by the new series as part of the BBC festive schedule. We also talk about how Christmas is celebrated in Australia, more of your missives in our Santa sack and what exactly does the Ribos (or is it Rebos?) Operation have in common with Boney M ? All this plus letters from from our lovely elves (listeners), a review of the Lords of Time 3 convention in Melbourne and what did (Uncle) Terrance Dicks think of the whole Time Lord gender swapping shenanigans?
