We thought this provided some nice symmetry with our episode about companion arrivals. Join Deb, Erika, Lynne, and Tansy as we talk about how companions leave the TARDIS. Many are forced out, some choose to leave, a few even die. We have some definite favorites and some just-as-definite least favorites. Also, Deb objectifies hair and Lynne wants to spray King Yrcanos with a spray bottle. It's lots of good fun!

What's your favorite/least-favorite way to see a companion take their leave of the Doctor? Which stories do you love, and which don't hold water? Let us know in the comments!

Episode Duration: 37 minutes and 24 seconds

For this week we had the opportunity to talk to the delightful Sophie Aldred, and we couldn't make you wait for that--especially because her Kickstarter for Strangeness in Space still has a few days to go. Do check it out if you're a fan of sci-fi, comedy, and/or audio goodness! She chats to Deb about that fantastic project, her time as Ace (both on screen and in Big Finish), and what it's like attending conventions and interacting with fans. It's a wonderful conversation, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we have!

No, that title doesn't mean we're fighting amongst ourselves (though it's true we're not in total agreement about this week's topic). Join Deb, Erika, Liz, Lynne, and Tansy as we talk about Richard Marson's new biography of Verity Lambert, Drama and Delight: The Life of Verity Lambert. Verity did an awful lot more than just launching Doctor Who. Her successes ranged from television to cooking to friendship. We chat about it all and discuss whether we thought the book succeeds as a biography.

Will you be running out to nab this book? Let us know in the comments!

...Or as Deb so aptly put it on the Verity! spreadsheet: "Hey you! What are you doing in my TARDIS?" Join Erika, Deb, Liz, and Lynne as we talk about how the companions end up with the Doctor in the first place. There are lots of different ways and reasons folks end up aboard the TARDIS. Some do it on purpose, some are complete accidents. Some seem to have fallen out of favor in the new series, and we wish they'd make a comeback!

It's April Fools' Day, so we thought we'd bring you something a bit lighter than usual. Join Deb, Erika, Lynne, and Tansy as we discuss the totally-canonical (according to some) PR1ME computer ads Tom Baker and Lalla Ward did in the early 80s. Wait. I should be clearer--Tom and Lalla did these Australian commercials AS the Doctor and Romana. And they are a glorious thing to behold. If you haven't already seen them, do yourself a favor!

So what do you think of these commercials? Totally canon? Or just totally fun?

Join Deb, Erika, Lynne, and Tansy as we talk about the most educated companions--the academics, the doctors, the scientists, and more. What is it about them that makes them appealing? Is there anything that can be off-putting to audiences? Does Romana count? The answer to that last one is debated hotly (but laughingly)!

    25 February 2015 (12:30pm GMT)
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 8 minutes and 11 seconds

    Direct Podcast Download

This week we focus on one companion--the winner of our Verity! companions poll! Join Deb, Erika, Liz, and Lynne, as we talk about Ace! Our personal feelings about Ace as a companion are mixed, but we all agree (mostly) on her importance as a companion. It's pretty easy to draw a line between Ace and Rose, and we do just that! We also chat a lot about Ace: as compared to other women on screen at the time, as a character to identify with (or not), and as a tuxedo-wearer.

What are your feelings about Ace? Do you love her attitude? Or does she put you off as a viewer? Or something in between? Let us know in the comments!

    14 January 2015 (12:30pm GMT)
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 16 minutes and 10 seconds

    Direct Podcast Download

Our year of companions kicks off in delightful style! Join Deb, Erika, Katrina, and Tansy as we discuss those Doctor Who characters who were almost companions--those who were slated to become TARDIS travelers but never did, as well as those who we wish had stuck around. Deb accidentally invents a new word*. Kat is thoroughly predictable. Erika unabashedly cheats. And Tansy has a list!

Which guest stars do you wish had become full-time companions? Let us know in the comments!

*comfanion, noun; a Doctor Who character not generally considered a companion of the Doctor, but whom a viewer loves so much, they think should have been. The viewer may even argue against popular opinion, claiming their favorite *is* a companion. (Examples: "Bret Vyon is my favorite companion." "He was only in one story! He's a comfanion, at best." -- "Sally Sparrow is my favorite comfanion. I wish the Doctor would've invited her onto the TARDIS.")

This week sees the last entry in our year of villains. Join Deb, Erika, Liz, and Lynne as we chat about one of the most interesting villains of them all. Who could it be? Why, it's the Doctor himself! There are more than a few times our beloved "hero" does things that are far less-than-heroic. We talk about a number of examples, why they are (or aren't) really villainous, and even slide into a conversation about the nature of evil! Deep stuff. Sorta.

Why, it's the Doctor himself! There are more than a few times our beloved "hero" does things that are far less-than-heroic. We talk about a number of examples, why they are (or aren't) really villainous, and even slide into a conversation about the nature of evil! Deep stuff. Sorta.

What do you think about the Doctor as a villain? Let us know in the comments.

The year is almost over, but there's still time to finish out our year of villains in style! Join Deb, Erika, Lynne, and Tansy as we talk about the times when the TARDIS has crossed over to the dark side--or seemed to. Or at least acted a little tetchy. Okay, so we realize "villain" is a bit of a strong word, but there were certainly times the TARDIS was antagonistic. And we cover a lot of examples! Here's a list of (I think) all the stories we talk about in this ep:

    • The Edge of Destruction
    • The Daleks' Master Plan
    • The Mind Robber
    • Logopolis
    • Castrovalva
    • Frontios
    • The TV Movie
    • Boom Town
    • The Lodger
    • The Doctor's Wife
    • Let's Kill Hitler
    • Hide
    • Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS
    • Big Finish:
      • The Settling
      • Zagreus

What other examples can you think of? Let us know in the comments. And let us know what you think of the TARDIS as a "baddie"!

  • Verity! Episode 61 - Permission to Squeeeeeeee (About Series 8)

    19 November 2014 (1:30pm GMT)
Episode Duration: 1 hour, 46 minutes and 10 seconds

    Direct Podcast Download

Now that it's all over, we look back at Series 8 as a whole. Join Deb, Erika, Katrina, Liz, and Tansy as we discuss the characters and themes that made series 8 what it was. We didn't love everything, and (of course) we didn't all love the same things. But we (again, of course) find plenty to chew over after this, one of the most challenging series of Doctor Who to date.

What did you think of S8? Did it hang together well? Was it inconsistent? Was it consistently disappointing? Always awesome? Or somewhere in between? And perhaps most importantly, how much did you love Capaldi (and his hair)?

    • We're doing a Patreon-funded, 100th-Verity!-release giveaway!
    • Liz can now purchase her beloved S8 posters by Stuart Manning!
    • Tansy loves the cover for the latest Doctor Who Magazine!
    • Deb will be panelling at Philcon!

And with that, it's over--for another six weeks, anyway. Series 8 has come to a close, and its final episode has rather a lot to chew over. Join Deb, Erika, and Katrina as we delve into some of those elements: Missy/The Master, Clara as the Doctor, the evolution of lying, the self-realization of the Doctor... There are so many elements, however, that some of them will be left for next week, when we have many Verities to talk about the whole shebang--it's our Series 8 wrap-up!

What did you think of the series finale? Was it a perfect culmination of a fantastic series? A fitting culmination for a lousy series? Or something in between? Let us know in the comments!
