A Hookah in the TARDIS
Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastWhere has the magic of Doctor Who gone? It’s the first time we’ve been back to Gallifrey since the last time, Todd is cross, and Mary Whitehouse is furious. It’s time for The Deadly Assassin!
Buy the story!
The Deadly Assassin was released on DVD in 2009. (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)
Notes and links
It’s impossible to understand the negative fanboy reception of this story without reading Jan Vincent-Rudski’s review of this story. There’s a video version of this review on YouTube.
You can find Jan Vincent-Rudski’s review in License Denied, edited by Paul Cornell, which is well worth a look. It includes Gareth Roberts’s defence of the Graham Williams Era, which Nathan thinks is utterly brilliant, of course.
The Manchurian Candidate (1962) tells the story of someone brainwashed into committing a terrible political assassination. Which really has nothing to do with The Deadly Assassin.
Fans of things much less relevant to this story will enjoy Geordie LaForge trying to assassinate some Romulan guy in [the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode The Mind’s Eye](http://en.memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/The_Mind’s_Eye_(episode)).
Nathan is hugely embarrassed about not recognising Runcible the fatuous as Shakespeare in The Chase.
Follow us!
Brendan is on Twitter as @brandybongos, Nathan is @nathanbottomley, Todd is @toddbeilby, and Richard is @RichardLStone. You can follow the podcast on Twitter as @FTEpodcast.
We’re also on Facebook, and you can check out our website at flightthroughentirety.com. And please consider rating or reviewing us on iTunes, or we’ll stick you in a Doctor Who story with no companion apart from a talking cabbage perched on your shoulder. Which would just serve you right.
Bondfinger
We recorded our commentary podcast episode for Goldfinger mere moments ago, so keep an eye out for its release in the next week or so on Bondfinger. We have already done two commentaries: From Russia With Love (1963), and Dr. No (1962). You can keep up with all the Bondfinger news on Twitter and Facebook.

Terminus Podcast -- Episode 10 - He's A Magic Man: The Magician's Apprentice
Terminus: A Doctor Who PodcastA little later than I anticipated -- still getting used to fitting in all the podcast work all by my lonesome! -- but here is my discussion of the S8 opening story, 'The Magician's Apprentice'! Of course, how this story is going to end is the grand mystery of the hour, but that's cool, I still found there was more enough to talk about within part one (and what a part one it was!).
I'm back to the full-style episode format for now, along with the return of my old friend, Happy Fandom Time (which there is so much to be happy about in the Whoniverse these days -- it was hard to contain myself!). My voice is admittedly still a bit gravelly (though I did take care to edit out any coughs), but I think everything is a-ok.
Anyway, join me on this episode as I gush about our newest episode of Doctor Who. And, as always, glad to have you all aboard. Enjoy the ride!

111 - All Sizzle, No Fleek
Arrow of TimeIt’s our eleventy-first birthday, but all the presents are for you, kind reader, as long as you can accept that the presents are in audio form and there’s only one of them. We also bring questions, such as this classic brain teaser: what if you told a BBC exec that they were looking at a man who would go on to tell the same story over and over again? Would they still hire him? No reason to ruminate, because they did, and that man is none other than Steven Q. Moffat! Now unwrap our latest podcast where we talk about (and reserve judgement on) “The Magician's Apprentice” and test our knowledge with Doctor Who: The Official Quiz Book by Jacqueline Rayner. Spoilers: we didn’t get A levels, or whatever the English do for school these days.
One answer that’s never wrong is Matt’s choice for WhoTube, expertly filled this week with “The UNIT Files” by Legs Nose Robinson: http://youtu.be/JSG0A5i2bDg

The Oncoming Storm Ep 158: Original Sin, Big Bang Generation, Scientific Secrets of Doctor Who, and a whole bunch of comics
The Oncoming StormComputers are a heck of a thing. They're wonderful tools to help us in everyday life... until they're not. Then they're either not working for 2 hours as you try to record a podcast, or trying to take over the world, like in this week's feature New Adventure, Original Sin by Andy Lane. Josh, Ashley, Rachel, and Jeff do their best to overcome their computer issues, as well as a week's worth of personal issues, to come together to discuss what they've read in the last month. Too bad none of them have read the same things! They finally get it together enough to have a late night discussion of Original Sin, Big Bang Generation by Gary Russell, The Scientific Secrets of Doctor Who, and a mess of Titan Doctor Who comics! The Oncoming Storm... This time, we've got a bunch of tired, brain dead hosts! Do forgive them if they spew nonsense.

Big Blue Box Podcast - Episode 57
The Doctor Who Big Blue Box PodcastWe’ve arrived! The start of Series 9 has been and what a show we have to discuss everything. To keep you waiting a bit more, we have the news to do so let’s land the TARDIS…
The News
Our Australian listeners attending the Doctor Who Festival will be happy as a few more guests have been announced. Joining Peter Capaldi, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss will be 7th Doctor Sylvester McCoy, Billie Piper and Dan Starky. You lucky things you :)
Series 9 opener The Magician’s Apprentice has broken a US record with the shows largest premier of just over 2 million viewers within their target demographic of 18-49 year olds. This is great news that more people are watching and an increase from series 8, mostly younger viewers.
We now have confirmation that Jenna Coleman has left the show. What started as a 99% confirmed rumour last week turned to fact after Jenna herself told Radio 1 Breakfast show listeners the sad news. “I have left the Tardis – it’s happened, I’ve filmed my last scenes”. Now we have this confirmed it begs the question; when in series 9 will she go. We smell a new companion on the horizon.
“The Magician’s Apprentice” Review
It’s felt like a lifetime since series 8 was with us but the new series is finally here. We dive into the story, characters and themes to this belter of a series opener. Are we suitably impressed by it’s hype and excitement or left out on the battle fields of Skaro in the cold?
This week’s trivia question
Last episode we asked you – After The Daleks, which is the next the story to see The Doctor visiting Skaro? The answer is – The Evil of the Daleks.
This week’s question is – On what date was Victorian Clara born? Give us your answer in the comments below or post it on Twitter or Facebook. Good luck!
What a full on episode it’s been this week. Thank you so much to those who sent in audio and video reviews, please keep them coming. Thanks to everyone for hanging out on Twitter and Facebook too and look out for the usual post next week to give us your thoughts on The Witch’s Familiar. Until next time – Allons-y!

The Magician's Apprentice
PodcasticaHAPPY NEW SEASON, WHOVIANS! John and Taylor are back, and ready to talk about the premiere of season nine of Doctor Who! Before they do that, they talk a little about the news of Jenna Coleman departing the show. Taylor has a very interesting theory about the Abbey Road promotional picture and the departure of Clara, which leads them into a discussion about companions who have left the show previously. They then discuss everything that happened in the premiere, and give a couple of theories about what they think is going to happen in "The Witch's Familiar".

Who's He? Podcast #217 And he said I was evil
Who's He?Doctor Who is back and so is the Who's He? Podcast! After Skype got over its little hiccup (thanks a bunch Skype), Phil and Paul at last were able chat about The Magician's Apprentice, episode 1 of series 9. And what an opening episode! Davros, Missy, Skaro, Daleks old and new and a man made out of snakes that glides around like Cliff Richard on roller skates! But what did Paul and Phil think of this story and was it worth the wait? Well, there were caveats to them enjoying this episode, in fact it has lot to do with the Doctor's guitar styling's to be exact! But towards the end both Phil and Paul start rambling like they were in a rest home for elderly gentlemen which may cause some people to switch off.
And in the news it's the return of the dreaded stats, Jenna Coleman is confirmed as leaving Doctor Who, series 9 episodes titles have been released and more Big Finish Torchwood casting news.
